SirPrimalform: Got a reply! As many suggested, it might have been an overzealous volunteer mod. Was asked if I'd rather be unbanned or just have the account deleted. Sounds all sorted now. Might even get an answer to my original question. ;)

Well, it turns out that 'the man' didn't do it himself. The man could do with being more careful about who he gives power to though. :P

It would take more than this to boycott, but it would give me pause when buying further games if this is how they handle their fora.

But, looks like they fixed the error so it hasn't come to that.
