That would still be inexcusable, and would still warrant a complain. There's nothing in their FAQ that states "please stop asking about this". And nothing like that in that desura thread either. It's at best a weird mistake, or a case of spectacularly bad moderation. And I like frictionnal games a lot (their games are very very clever, which is rare even amongst all my favorite games), so, I'd expect their forum moderation's standards to be a bit higher.

I think that some GOGer registered on the desura boards should politely PM a question about it.

(Just for the background, I've already been banned from a forum for asking a forbidden question. But, it was quite deliberate, and quite clear, no way to miss that this was a taboo. And it was also quite clear that the owners were awful people. So, by comparison, this story here confuses me a bit.)

Well, Moderators are known to be like this. The best moderators are the ones that nearly dont do anything.

SirPrimalform: I tried to check it but because they IP banned me, even logging out and deleting cookies isn't enough to view the forum as a guest.
If you just need to access their forums for a little while then a proxy should get you around an IP ban. Something like FoxyProxy is easy to set up, and plugging one of the many free proxies into it works just fine if you just need a temporary change in apparent IP.
Ctrl+F 'Steam'

Thread delivers.

SimonG: Maybe using sweetcheekslover666 as a forum name wasn't such a good idea after all ;-).

Roman5: Pardon for this question but...what exactly does "Sweetcheeks" mean anyway? Is that like an American thing they say to women or what?
Yes, some people do. Unfortunately. :-)

F1ach: Tasty buttocks?
It usually means she's got a nice ass. Or at least an ass that the speaker finds to be nice.
Well, yesterday I did exactly what the 'banned' notice suggested and sent a message through the contact us link at the bottom of the page. Not had a reply yet, but then this is the weekend.
Sounds like some really nice folks over at Frictional...

Sometimes yes, but I far more often hear it in the ironic, condescending sense.

Well, I'm only going to be pissed off if I either don't get a reply or if they say the ban was appropriate and fair. For now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was just a mistake/overzealous mod.
I had a Steampowered forums account banned over spam once. The spam? A link to a PC Gamer contest which could net you Steam games.

I had to create a second profile and PM a mod to get it overturned.
Frictional are good guys - hopefully this was a misunderstanding.
Got a reply! As many suggested, it might have been an overzealous volunteer mod. Was asked if I'd rather be unbanned or just have the account deleted. Sounds all sorted now. Might even get an answer to my original question. ;)

Well, that's good to hear. I like Frictional, so I'd hate to have a reason to avoid buying from them.
