JudasIscariot: Signs wasn't too bad really. They didn't go overboard with the usual aliens-invade-so-now-we-have-to-show-off-their-ships mode. And this was before Mel Gibson started going batshit insane.
I agree, another sci-fi that became way to fashionable to rip on. I personally thought it was quite an interesting Hitchockian type sci-fi. Less is more sometimes.
O yea, that remind me of The Man From Earth, a great indie sci-fi film written by Jerome Bixby who wrote some Star Trek and Twilight Zone episodes. It's more of a philosophical exposition in movie form but involves a lot of very geeky dialogue.

Surely you mean that it was when he could still hide how batshit insane he is?
Also, Signs had a poor twist, much as I appreciate M.Night's work, it irritated me the second watch through.
Although his last film was pure comedy. Oh wait, it was supposed to be serious... so serious that the actors forgot to act. Although it does have a cameo by none other than Brian O'Halloran, which I spotted despite only seeing the side of his head! (I guess I've seen Clerks etc. too much...)

lotr-sam0711: Edit: Remembered one more, Alien3. I seriously don't get why people rip on this film. Yes, It's not as good as the first two but I still think it is a good film and has the most interesting setting of the Alien films. Plus Dillion is possibly my favorite character in the series.

I like it as well, but if you haven't seen the 'director's cut' (available in the Alien Quadrilogy, not sure where else), you should make it a point to see it. It makes the movie an order of magnitude better and you can really see what a butchering job they did on the theatrical release.

I've seen both versions and I agree the DC is better but I don't think the Theatrical cut is by any means bad. The Alien Quadrilogy is possibly the greatest DVD boxset ever released.

Zhirek: Did anyone mention Star Wreck: in the Pirkinning yet?

That one has nice FX, considering it was made by amateurs, the end result was quite good. I consider that one more comedy than sci-fi though.
EDIT: So who knows this movie, Brainscan, it is not exactly sci-fi, i think it is more horror/thriller, but since this is a gmers forum... Who would like to play this game?:P

the trailer is misleading though... it's more like Donnie Darko than an action sci-fi
the main character is also my avatar :D
hard to come by but easy to download if you just google "storm 2005 rapidshare" or something like that.

Looks interesting, I think I might try this un out.
I second Children of Men. Loved it. And then I'll add a strange one. A comedic, immature and unpretentious short film set in space called Gayniggers from Outer Space. Since it's a short film, you can stream it from Google Video here.
Edit: Not saying this is a good movie, but it gave me a couple of chuckles.
