Hi all,

it seems, that Steam is trying to get into the old game market more and more.
In the Steam Registry, AppID 206180 has been added with the Name: Baldurs Gate

Here is an article about it: http://www.dsogaming.com/news/biowares-classic-baldurs-gate-coming-to-steam/

I will keep buying my old games here!
It (and BG2) have been in the registry for a while now. So while it may come, it doesn't appear to be that soon.

Notice the huge number difference between the apps? Because BG2 has been in the registry for quite a while now.

www.baldursgate.com 's latest update says:

<!-- February 13, 2012 -->
<!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->
<!-- oh dear it's coming soon -->

They've been hinting at things for a few months now. Maybe it's just a Steam release.
@GOG.com

Please in future put in the small print that these things (like other distributors selling your exclusive games) would be a breach of contract.

The DnD games are kinda GOG's flagship IMO and if steam gets their grubby mitts on them its a kick in the balls to GOG

What? What litigation has ever followed that path?

You ever wondered why it took over a year before those were released somewhere else? ;-) I bet my ass they had exclusive rights.

On topic:

Any game available on Steam or GOG I will always buy on GOG first (maybe on Steam again if they are really cheap). I like GOG, I want to support them. I use Steam.

That is a nice coincedence with the current promo, isn't it.

Exclusive publishing deals are totally legal unless you can force them due to market control. GOG isn't that big, yet ;-).

Oh alright, I misread his post. There's no way that Atari would go for that. Furthermore, BG2 is also out on GamersGate already.

And Impulse
And Baldur's Gate Completion has been on sale for years now in most highstreet shops.

Baldur's Gate on GoG is good don't get me wrong, but its not exclusive to them in the least and has been a game easily accessible to the masses for a long while. Other parts of the DnD series have been a little more tricky - Demon Stone for example (though I recall seeing that being sold by Soldout Software back when shops on the highstreet sold games).

Baldur's Gate series on Steam makes perfect sense and its actually surprising that they are not on there already. Also you must have noticed that many releases on GoG also appear on other distribution services either around the same time or way before GoG gets them

Ubivis: ...
This could be also the reason why we have DnD promo right now - GOG would like to get as much money form us as possible before games will appear somewhere else :P
the games are already available pretty much everywhere else, so IMO it's just a matter of time until they show up on Steam. and why shouldn't they? they also keep getting re-released on disc all the time.

and i can only shake my head at what reaver894 said. must be the most stupid thing i've read all week, and it's almost Thursday...

except the games have already been available in other places for quite a while now...

some of you guys could do with a reality check here. why should those games not appear on Steam when Steam is the market leader in digital distribution and the most popular PC gaming platform? you're free to not buy them on Steam but i can guarantee you that if the BG games showed up on Steam, they'd climb up the Steam charts quickly.

That's true, but Steam as, as you said, leader, can easily cut off many GOG's purchases of these games in future.

... So you're actually suggesting that they add a pro-monopoly clause to their contracts?

Are you aware that monopolies of any kind are bad for the consumer?
GOG showed the world selling old games can be profitable. This was quite inevitable, really.
