TEE is the one I thought I was redeeming as I already have BG. No worries, just bought it instead :P

reaver894: @GOG.com

Please in future put in the small print that these things (like other distributors selling your exclusive games) would be a breach of contract.

The DnD games are kinda GOG's flagship IMO and if steam gets their grubby mitts on them its a kick in the balls to GOG
steam already as DnD games, namely NWN 2 and Daggerdale... GG has NWN and NWN 2 ... Plus I doubt that GOG makes an exclusivity agreement with publishers limiting themselves to GOG... could be wrong but that is just my hypothesis.

nijuu: Im curious. Why would/should GOG allow their version to be sold on another service ?
are they even GoG's own version?

1) plenty of old games are available everywhere (Steam, GamersGate, Impulse, DotEmu, etc.) so i doubt they are all GoG editions

2) plenty of old games don't even require any kind of modification in order to be compatible with modern hard- and software. AFAIK the Baldur's Gate games work on W7x64 out of the box.

some of the members here are absurdly overestimating "the GoG treatment". the majority of good old games needs no modification for compatibility. the D&D games in particular have been constantly available in various editions in physical retail over the years. there was never any need for a "compatible" edition.

Except that none of the BG1/BG2/IWD/IWD2/PST games were available for digital download from anywhere til GOG made the agreement with ATARI.

Not sure it was modifications but more i think something to do with agreements with multiple ownership rights to BG or something like that which stopped it from being available digital online for such a longtime...i could be wrong though.

maybe so but the games have never had any compatibility issues. so there was never any need for the "GoG treatment". Atari could have just provided the games in their original state and let each digital distributor wrap their own installer around them.

what about Good Old Games that have previously only been available elsewhere, for example on DotEmu? are you gonna argue that GoG is selling the DotEmu edition? are you gonna claim that nobody but DotEmu should be allowed to sell the game digitally?

Of course they have the right to it. Every game should be sold everywhere. Just because some idiots decide that some games can only be Steam exclusive doesn't mean we should refuse Steam to have GOG games. Of course it means more competition for GOG. If Steam would start pushing GOG out of market by sheer size I would not like it at all. I like the service and the prices here. I will continue buying here first.

The only Steam exclusive games are Valve games and some of the indies and the like that simply aren't released somewhere else yet aren't they?

Steamworks, although it forces you to *use* Steam, is not Steam exclusive when it comes to sales. (just highlighting the difference, not saying it's better :))

Using this logic, not even Valve games are Steam exclusives.

no, they're not. Impulse sells them as well.
