Fifeldor: I only hope it's a 3D remake. Chances are slim though.

Remaking the old BG in 3D would be taking one on the best rpg sagas and sinking it in sh!t...

Leave fancy graphics to noobs that know nothing about what a good game is...

Tormentfan: NO!!!
Why? Will it, in any way, affect the original game's quality?

If you prefer it to be an iPad version, so be it.

If they do make BG3, then they better not let EA screw it over because they've been making Bioware make shooters instead of RPGs. The games still have some RPG elements, but the story is weaker, and combat seems to focus more on FPS than RPG (example: Mass Effect 2 and 3).

Making fancy graphics literally steals time and money from the development of good story, gameplay and characters.

This is easily seen in the huge quality gap between games of different "generations"... the idea of quality now is scraping the bottom of the barrel

Reagarding the "re-making" of a game: why is that even felt necessary? why would any sane person spend his money on a graphic readaptation? the game has nothing to do with graphics, if you need fancy graphics to enjoy a game you are not really liking a game in the first palce.

Developers should focus in making good content, not nice dresses for lame content

Guess you aren't playing anything after 1998 then.

You're not talking original game anyway, you're talking about a remake.. and frankly I don't want one of my favourite francises to get all fucked up just to appeal to adhd noobs who prize shinies over experience.. just so people with the attention span of a fly can claim to have played BG.. when in fact the experience would be completely different.

The game is absolutely huge.. making a full 3d version of it would in all probability cause feature cut... Even if all that's bullshit.. 3D has added NOTHING, not a godanmed thing, to real gameplay and in fact in some cases detracts from it.

So NO.. No 3D.
I like 2d graphics. It's kind of like with artists. You may prefer some artist's work over another's even if the other guy has better technique.

..and I've yet to see as "cool" animations in 3d as I've seen in 2d.

3d can be done well, but it'll easily end up with "this part looks great, this doesn't. his mouth and face are lifelike, the rest of him doesn't move or repeats the same small movement again and again". If they made a 3d thing with a fixed camera and none of that "forcibly zoom in on everything all the time because you can" stuff, I might not object to it. Sometimes I just want to smack a goblin with a stick without sudden slow motion zoom in and some latin choir shouting like it's the end of the world for all the parties involved.

Then the other thing. Voice acting's all over the place nowadays. It'd annoy me even if they could make as much content with the voice acting because I usually read much faster than they speak, so I either skip it and hear "Hello trav For gear vis Do you hav See you" or am forced to listen to some voice actor convey his pathos, possibly for the nth time.

I'm exaggerating slightly. 3d can be really great, and it certainly has its place. I just don't want it everywhere.
A remake or sequel is not really necessary with all the fan patches, mods and the GemRB project. But something with similar aesthetics and content as the Infinity Engine games, with the combat system of Temple of Elemental Evil, could be pretty cool.

I never liked the infinty engine. Never. It looked weird, the characters were ugly and badly animated. I'm not saying that there was something better availabe at the time that would have achieved similar results, but I really won't mind if they replace it.

Btw, was Fallout 1+2 also infinty engine? They looked a lot better in my book.

No, that was the (wait for it) Fallout Engine.

I'd gladly play another IE game, btw. Handled a lot better than the Fallout engine to which I really had to get used to after playing all the IE games first.

Wikipedia says it's Fallout engine. With the italics.

The animations and character design doesn't have anything to do with the engine, but I see your point. They look kinda stiff and strange, but I think they were made out of 3D models, and you might remember what the intro cinematic looked like.
What I like about the infinity engine games are the environments. Quite nice and detailed, most of them.

Pretty sure all the characters and monsters were pre-rendered 3D turned into 2D sprites.

They're not going to redo all the backgrounds as 3D unless they're sitting on a huge pile of time and money they don't want back. They'd have to convert everything from scratch. Also, making something in 3D doesn't protect it from future resolution increases unless you don't use textures. Low res textures on high res models don't always look good. That's ignoring things like polygon count and other performance limitations. Realtime 3D quality is very high these days, but it still isn't future proof.
