cw8: Is this trailer for real?

They can't spell the name right.
It's a fake. The guy from Beamdog confirmed its fakeness, I believe.

Starkrun: If you look at Beamdog as a company they don't have nearly the personal or resources to make a game...

what they do have is the ability to create an HD version of a game that already exists... they did so with MDK2 and did a very nice job...

Since the symbol is the same and its in "HD" and the mention of the infinity engine 2 and Beamdogs history Im going to say this will not be a new game but a HD remake..
Whats the point of a remake?.

More profits than merely a digital release of the original has brought so far?
Upgraded engine (as far as BG1 and PS:T goes) that works well by default for higher resolutions? (Even the widescreen mod doesn't make the shop/inventory/etc. screens handle different resolutions very well.)
Data to handle widescreen resolutions? (The BG2, IWD, and IWD2 versions of the engine can handle different resolutions, but the window data files were just never made with non-4:3 resolutions in mind.)

Beyond that, no I don't see much use either, though I AM looking forward to seeing how it'll turn out.

An upraded engine would definatly be a plus and might just make me buy the game again. I still think that the Dragon Age engine would make a great Baldurs Gate remake...

Graphics card companies don't make new cards backward compatible with older games. Many can end up with screen flickr problems or other visual errors because of modern methods clashing with older software. Returning to rebuild that software is very hard since rebuilding old codes (esp if you didn't work on them) can take an age just to work out what they are doing.

So a modern HD remake which takes the original content and puts it over a more modern visual display helps a lot. You can now run the game on modern computers without visual errors - further you can run it on highres screens without the image being a tiny tiny dot in the middle of a sea of black.

Remakes are a very strong market option = heck Nintendo cranks out remakes for several of hteir games for pretty much every platform they work on (Ocarina of Time appears to be immortal that way ;)).
Further a solid game is based more upon gameplay than just visuals - nothing to say that an older game, with revamped visuals can't be a big seller in a new gaming market.

The engine is good, yes, I'm wary of a 3D migration though - not for the 3D itself, but for other ideas that are likely to follow. I was thinking "upgrading to IWD2-version Infinity Engine".

Personally I'd prefer to keep 2D game as 2D. Upgrade the visuals yes, but don't change the overall ambiance or core appearance of the game itself. If you're going to go that far you might as well write a unique story and content.

I have to admit one of the first things I did Not like about Neverwinter was how the new 3D engine totally changed the visual representation of the DnD world from the other games. Suddenly everything looked totally different!

There is a BG remake using the NWN2 engine in the working and it looks great from the screenshots I've seen.

Well it's gonna be a mix of 2D and 3D... so... hopefully it'll still maintain that BG feel but with some of the perks of 3D engines.
Countdown, 23 hours to go.
