That's just the new iPad. The first and second have 1024x768.

It's really a shame. I would have hoped for new environment renders and updated animations. That would have been awesome. But this is indeed going to be a quick cash-grab.....

Well, I was kind of hoping it would be Curse of the Azure Bonds (etc) remastered with the Infinity Engine, but this will do! :p (I shall wait and see what they come up with, too early to judge yet)

" Tofer says that earning the rights to this project has been a long and difficult process. It took the team 14 months to convince Atari, Wizards of the Coast, and BioWare to all get aboard Beamdog's Baldur's Gate campaign. Beamdog doesn't have the rights to any new Baldur's Gate games, but they do have a large chunk of the team that worked on the classic RPG series."

Thank fark for that. No BG3 from them.

like i said before, i won't get my hopes up. and BG3? forget it.
Judging by the comments in Codex forum, people aren't too happy. There's a couple of screen shots on the main thread.

Reading the thread i can understand why they are. And good reason to be if your a PC user . A few things -
1. Interface is geared towards the ipad
2. Sounds like just skin job + a few mods (if using said mods already there's no real point in getting this) +1 new NPC & a few quests.
3. ipad version going to be 10bucks + multiplayer (no work on PC version for that)
4. Thread seems to indicate there are 5 EX Bioware + 2 more to add to team working on it (unless the original core teams have left there jobs suddenly especially the writers i cant see any of these ex bioware dudes being from those teams).

Just from that page you linked they sound like whiny, entitled little shits who want it EXACTLY their way.

Seriously, that guy hates it because the guy that created Minsc is involved?! Minsc is expertly voiced and well written and the guy is basing his entire lack of faith on not liking Minsc.

The updates, new characters, new quests, etc. could be FANTASTIC, but that guy seems so hell bent on hating it I doubt he'd be unable to admit he was wrong.

That's what I had meant. The Codex has built up quite a reputation for hating absolutely everything in the known universe.

Not that I had any expectations at all for this BG revival project, mind you.

Honestly. I dont see any benefits for the PC user. This project is anything but that.

Maybe an april 1 joke?
Yeah, it turns out this is just a cash grab aimed at the iOS....it doesn't seem as if they are HD'ifing the art work after all, as Oster said they would.

Classic Biowarian bait and switch

EDIT.. and no I'm not saying Bioware is responsible here, just that it's their tactics and 'coincidentaly' coming from an EX-bioware.

Unless we actually see the game in person, it's impossible to really comment one way or the other how good of a job they'll have done in updating the content and the graphics. We'll never know until the final product comes out or until people get pre-release code that's close to the final Golden Master. All we've seen are pictures of early pre-release versions.

Personally, I'm excited to see BG and BG2 back; I'm mixed on Beamdog doing BG3, which is apparently what they want to do in the future, but they've expressed a lot of interest in doing an EE of Planescape Torment too. Honestly, I think it's time to dial back the hate a little.

Really... I knew about this and it's enough reason to want to start piling on more.. Years ago I would have frothed at the mouth, in anticipation, because it would have been done for the love of the quality, but now they just see the chance to make a quick buck.. and setting out with that mindset always turns out badly for beloved franchises.

On what basis? Simply because they'd likely be doing an iOS/Android port? If we see in the final version that the EE mechanics and/or graphics on the desktop version have been seriously compromised in quality due to the mobile ports, then I see every reason to lash out at Beamdog...but right now, we don't know anything and all we have to go on are mockups and pictures of early pre-release code.

That's the ultimate point I'm trying to make - everyone seems to be making these Chicken Little arguments yet no one's seen neither final release code, nor the final art assets of the game. Right now, this excites me because one of the greatest RPG franchises in the history of the genre is going to be thrust back into the public eye, potentially with HD/higher-res graphics and without having to go through the laborious process of applying patches. Wouldn't that be a good thing? Wouldn't we want more people interested in playing a game that stresses excellent writing, deep gameplay, and an expertly told story? Isn't this what we ultimately want? More people playing games like BG/BG2/PST and less people playing Angry Birds, Call of Duty, or ME3?

Right now, with all due respect, a lot of the comments I've seen made about this come off as being kind of elitist...
