If it sucks, who cares we've got the original games
If its good, its good

everyone wins here no one loses
also, don't the BG games (still) belong to Atari? they're still publishing them digitally and in physical retail.

is Beamdog doing the overhaul for Atari?

According to the website, yes. Atari is in on the whole thing.
This HD upgrade looks great.

I also wish I had bought the GamersGate deal from a couple weeks ago for all those D&D games.

1. I think Tormentfan got this one right - the more I read of Trent's tweets the more I think it's just an upgraded BG TuTu... probably not an HD remake (not necessarily a bad thing though, just perhaps not as exciting as hoped).

2. The GG deal is back on NOW. Go get it! $5.99.

^5. Imho new wasteland 2 will be better (with all due respect) to a basically upgraded visuals on BG. Not convinced many will actually go for it since it isnt really a new BG...
Not to mention it'll require the Beamdog Client probably, that should ruffle plenty of feathers :)

The only Beamdog I knew did a PSOne emulator for PC. I thought they got sued out of existence. They're still around?
Oh, for god's sake... Watch this at your peril.

I'm holding out hope that all or at least some of the BG1 NPCs would get brought up to BG2 standards... And maybe even let you carry them into BG2 (i.e. choose your own "canon party"), or at the very least have the recurring NPCs follow you into SOA while the BG1-only NPCs find reasons to split.

Urgh, though I guess as it stands now, a couple of NPCs (specifically Edwin) are important to their related quests before they join the party, and Imoen being in your party is kind of an important plot point...
I'm currently romping through Baldur's Gate "Trilogy" (thank you GOG and your awesome discounts (and the modders)!) and loving it. But given BioWare's recent track record I'm not too enthusiastic about this to be honest.

It would be awesome though if it proves successful and then they decide to develop BG III into that updated engine! If its really just cosmetic and technical upgrades then the whole deal will end up a real nice, cohesive trilogy. Specially if they give it to Obsidian so the guys involved finish what was cancelled at Black Isle.

Considering the guy left Bioware and formed his own company you won't have to worry about that. Wizards of the Coast/Atari are the two who you may want to watch because one of them screwed up D&D while the other one screwed up D&D games.

This is more or less going to be a '1:1' update with some new stuff added in as opposed to a remake so it would be pretty hard to screw up.

I see! "Overhaul Games" huh? Run by ex BioWare people? My expectations just went up a few points.
