Tormentfan: I sit corrected.... that surprises me. A LOT.

GoJays2025: Apparently it uses the ToB codebase, and screenshots are coming next week at around this time.
It all just sounds like an authorised version of BGTUTU.
Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is going to have new content for the game you love, made by some of the original team members

Maybe... but they have had a lot of time to do a lot more modifications to the Infinity Engine too. It may be based on ToB, but it could also be pretty different looking now.

Fred_DM: also, Beamdog exclusive? yeah right. as if they weren't gonna put it on Steam, especially since the Steam registry already shows BG1&2 entries...
I'm guessing this is being done by Overhaul Games, which is wholly owned by Beamdog. They're the same team that did MDK2 HD.

It's possible that the original BG's are being released on Steam independent of this, or that Beamdog will license it to Steam. Seeing as they didn't do that with MDK2 HD, however, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I hope they address the bugs and cut material also thast was dealt with by Unfinished Business... that did a hell of a lot for the game.

sheepdragon: The animations and character design doesn't have anything to do with the engine, but I see your point. They look kinda stiff and strange, but I think they were made out of 3D models, and you might remember what the intro cinematic looked like.
What I like about the infinity engine games are the environments. Quite nice and detailed, most of them.

SimonG: Actually, I especially didn't like the buildings. The gnoll fortress was one of the worst maps I've ever seen in a game. The weird perspective simply didn't work with that engine. No sense of elevation or height. It wasn't that bad indoor, but I hated the town maps.

To be quite honest, I would have rather had on of those "dungeon crawler" engines that e.g. RoA uses.

In my opinion, especially in BG the infinity engine combined the worst of 2d and 3d.
Well, fair enough. RoA is p. cool...

Also, I need to wipe my monitor.

Nice! :-)

Shadows over Riva got a boxed release in english O_o?!

It was only released in a jewel case over here....
So this is more than just their graphical overhaul of MDK2?

So maybe they are going to add some REAL content to throne of Baal, instead of the soulless hack'n'slay it is today...

sorry for ranting, I was badly dissapointed when TOB came out..

A twitter was already put out a while ago that this announcement wasn't related to the Steam release of BG. I'm pretty sure that's still in the works and is entirely up to Atari.

The Enhanced editions however will most likely remain exclusive to Beamdog, at least for the foreseeable future. Can't really blame them for that though since they're being made by Overhaul Games, a subdivision of Beamdog itself.

makes no sense TBH when Steam owns 70% of the digital market. not putting it on Steam is just inviting people to pirate it instead.

i don't know about anybody else but i don't intend to sign up for yet another digital distribution client.

this is kind of starting to sound like a cheap way to promote their own digital distribution site...
I'm throwing money at my screen but it is doing nothing!

In all seriousness, I'm pretty excited after going through Trent's tweets. They are doing both games, sticking with the ToB engine like what Tutu does, adding new stuff in the same method as the original, fixing problems thanks to having the source code, and most of all sticking with second edition!

I'm totally buying this despite playing the original close to 5 times and have modded it to all hell.
Not excited. Dont see the point to it. Leave the wonderful original be.Reboots/reskinned can go get farked. Btw i thought all the original team were either working for Bioware or with Obsidian ?

Edit : Just looked through Wiki/Linked in - seems virtually all the lead designers/writers of BG/BG2 are still working for Bioware or Blizzard. Love to know who they got onboard to do the writing etc.

I'll be sure to keep an eye on this. Looking forward to future updates.

Why else would a DD have their own division called "Overhaul Games"? It's not like Paradox, who owned Gamersgate but sold elsewhere because their primary business was to develop games. Beamdog's primary business is to distribute.
