I just received that e-mail too. Nearly fell off my seat there.

Do want! I think. I really wish to see more though. Yes. Definitely. O.O
I suspect 'Enhanced Edition' means a HD remake.
Changing the battle system to Turn-Based instead of Real-Time with Pause would be nice though.

I think an HD overhaul is great for bringing exposure to the series and getting more people to play the games.

People know have never played an Infinity Engine game probably won't know what mods to get or how to use them or might not even know they exist at all.

Plus if they can make the game mechanics a little easier to understand (let's face it, it was pretty tough to get into if you didn't know D&D) without dumbing down the core gameplay, then that would allow for a bigger audience as well.

Baldur's Gate is one of the best RPGs and one that in my opinion defines the genre; more people should be able to enjoy it.

Apparently this was from baldursgate.com:

Okay, hands up who did not expect that. No one? I thought so.
Just BS then.

There's another problem though.. Wizards don't authorise 2nd ed products anymore. I have a feeling this 'revamp' will be released to coincide with Wizards new 5th ed.

Yeah.. don't want this, I see no point in it.

Apparently it uses the ToB codebase, and screenshots are coming next week at around this time.

storn: Remaking the old BG in 3D would be taking one on the best rpg sagas and sinking it in sh!t...

Leave fancy graphics to noobs that know nothing about what a good game is...
get a clue.

so it'll look like BG2? which looks, you know, like BG1, just with higher resolution support. and you can already get that with mods.

sounds lame TBH.

also, Beamdog exclusive? yeah right. as if they weren't gonna put it on Steam, especially since the Steam registry already shows BG1&2 entries...

sheepdragon: The animations and character design doesn't have anything to do with the engine, but I see your point. They look kinda stiff and strange, but I think they were made out of 3D models, and you might remember what the intro cinematic looked like.
What I like about the infinity engine games are the environments. Quite nice and detailed, most of them.
Actually, I especially didn't like the buildings. The gnoll fortress was one of the worst maps I've ever seen in a game. The weird perspective simply didn't work with that engine. No sense of elevation or height. It wasn't that bad indoor, but I hated the town maps.

To be quite honest, I would have rather had on of those "dungeon crawler" engines that e.g. RoA uses.

In my opinion, especially in BG the infinity engine combined the worst of 2d and 3d.
