Note:This is my first game review ever and I'm sorry for it's quality

Baldur's Gate is the first RPG game from the legendary studio Bioware. It utilizes the rules from the 2nd edition of Dungeons and Dragons and tranlates them very well to the PC.
The story begins with your character in Candlekeep, in the Sword Coast of Faerun, after your foster father Gorion told you to prepare for a journey without giving you any clues to why and then you stumble in some conspiracy about the quality of the iron in the region.
it's a somewhat simple story but it has it's high points and it hits them perfectly and the plot is well paced.
The graphics is a mix of sprites with hand colored background with CG for more complex things like statues and the such and it's very pleasing to the eye. Same should be said about the sound design in general, the soundtrack evoques the feeling of an epic adventure with some great voice acting.
The gameplay is simple with some great dephts to it, with real time with pause for the combat, and the D&D rules are,as mentioned above, very well translated in the game. But BG has some very glaring flaws and shows signs of age, for starters the UI is very clunky, the game can get somewhat monotonous after a while and there's balancing issues especially with mages.
Overall, Baldur's Gate is one of the best buys here on GOG and even though there's several flaws with it, you should pick it up because it's a important piece of gaming history and the start of Bioware in the RPG business.

I'll start reading it now.
So, found my first review any good for a first review?

Mods make it much better including UI.
Baldur's Gate II is superior in almost every way, of course it's nice to play the first one for the story before you get to the sequel.

And if you have both... well there are ways to incorporate Baldur's Gate 1 content into Baldur's Gate II's much superior engine.

I have never played BG and found your review helpful. Specially the bits about the flaws to be realistic about what I would find there. Comments about the tweaks available to use BG I on BG II engine are what keeps this game on my wishlist.

It's true that BG2 makes BG1 look like garbage even though BG1 is a good game.
nice review. It was short and to the point; I like that. :)

Good first review!
It touches all the aspects a proper review should (in my opinion at least), in order to give a good idea of what a player can expect; gameplay, writing, user interface, graphics etc. Maybe mentioning the audio next time would be a good addition.
Basically, the only real point of criticism I have is maybe that the review is too short! :)

Congrats and +1 for your first review! No need to apologize as it's well written, well structured and manages to cover a lot in relation to its length. Since it's less than 1500 character in length, you could post this on the official game page here:

It's really hard to review a game like Baldur's Gate in such briefness, that takes some skill so well done.
