If Atari does, in fact, resurrect the BG franchise, I just hope they make the rape of the aforementioned franchise gentle and forgetable....
Just pointing out some issues in case you weren't aware of them, Zeewolf. If it works for you and you have no issues with it, that's great. Funny you should mention StarForce though, as SecuROM 7.x is now looking to be as bad as, if not worse than, StarForce, with many of the same issues.
(btw, there's no revoke tool for Mass Effect. ;) )
Anyway, wasn't trying to start an argument or anything. Cheers.
*edit* Apologies. Was posting while you were editing.

I ran a small program called RootkitRevealer from Microsoft and it showed a registry entry that had SecuROM in it....Of course , this program comes with a disclaimer that not everything it detects could be a rootkit but something that exhibits rootkit like behavior.....

SecuROM does put in registry entries with null character values and they cannot be removed through normal methods. To be fair to SonyDADC though, they've released a tool to uninstall SecuROM. I'm not sure if it clears everything out or not though. But I think we're drifting way off topic here...

Ok going back on topic then....BOO BG3! Bugger Off!!
LOL
i never played the old balders gate i played icewind dale 2 that is very simular
I'm just glad we don't have to deal with those black text on brown paper codesheets any more. :-)
Last game I bought which had that was Uplink. Which is a good GoG-candidate, btw.
Also, Baldurs Gate 3! Woo! (that's what I'll say when Atari announces it) :-)
Frankly I am just damn tired of this 1984-like recycling of the various bits of entertainment...I know there's nothing new under the sun blah blah but can't we just let some franchises die and come up with something equally compelling and, perhaps, with a hint of originality?

Well, hopefully they would, even for a BG3. Who cares what it's named, as long as the game's good? Ideally, it wouldn't carry on with the BG storyline, but only really use the name as a customer familiarity hook (and, of course, use the D&D ruleset).

I suppose you're right...I mean the name "Baldur's Gate" is the name of a city not a character. I guess the city(and the surrounding areas..) is big enough for other stories to be happening. I wish they would do something with Waterdeep that did not involve the heroes going only underground (like Eye of the Beholder). I would like to see other regions/cities in the Forgotten Realms explored. Hell, for that matter, I would love to see an updated Dark Sun or Dragonlance (especially the Krynn series) game.
Okay, I nominate you to write and design the next game. I like the way you think! :)

I've always wanted to take a stab at writing a game design document...I've never done it...
Got any tips?
You could take a look at Gamasutra's article. I had a better one in mind, but I'm not sure if I can find it. I'll post a link if I do.
I don't think I'd have a problem with a series continuation or a remake of any of my old all time favourite games, provided it was done properly.
Trouble is, you can never count on that.
Look at UFO: Enemy Unknown, how many times have people made similar games? and how many are fondly remembered?
And on a similar note: Fallout 3.
