Mentalepsy: I can't think of any games that I like that were totally hammered by reviewers, because truly terrible reviews are somewhat rare unless the game is fundamentally broken.
But, two that come to mind that weren't particularly well-received by critics are King's Field: The Ancient City (Metacritic 60) and Bloodrayne (Metacritic 65). King's Field is a niche series that reviewers never seem to "get," and Bloodrayne is simplistic, but wildly entertaining - one of my favorite turn-your-brain-off bloodbaths (I'd call it a guilty pleasure, except that I don't feel guilty in the slightest).
Thunderscape was largely ignored at release, and I think reviews of it were lukewarm at best, but I adore that game. I wish Ubisoft would stop sitting on it and let GOG have it.

Enjoyed BloodRayne too. A lot :D
Yeah, I really hate how games are deemed really bad just because some reviewers say so. I really liked Haegemonia which Gog reunited me with.
Also, please don't flame me but I enjoyed Moo3.
I am particularly offended by scores; reviews (if they well written) at least tell you why they disliked or liked a game, if at least you can decide whether the ideas apply to you. BUT people have to read the reviews.
Baroque wii-50. I don't get why this is 10 points lower then the ps2 version when this is the better version.
Chulip ps2- 57. I loved this game, i wish my ps2 would read the disk though. Need a slim ps2.
opoona wii-65. fun rpg.
Red steel- 63. I had a blas playing it. I think it could have been better but it was a good start.
Raw danger ps2-63. I loved the survival theme.
Oni ps2- 69. It was a fun game with a great story. It's hard though.
Deadly creatures- 72
All I can think of currently. "professional" Reviewers tend to be hard on things that are different or are not halo or popular games.

Rogue Warrior. As many of you may know, I loved it. Who cares if the game is two hours long if there's Mickey Rouke swearing at everything that moves and calling everone a communist fuck?

Arteveld: And then there's The Detective Game for the C64, which generally got some bad reviews, ZZap somehow gave it a 78%, which is still too low.

That was tthe game where a shellshocked army major wandered around shouting GRENADE! wasn't it? That was awesome
Clive Barker's Jericho
Dark Sector (poor console port though)
Lost Planet
All of the Penumbra games
Tank Universal
Saints Row 2
Second Sight
Just remembered a more recent one: Alpha Protocol

SLP2000: yep, DS remake. Sadly, I doubt there will be PC remake.

If I only had one.. I'll wait for a PC version, till then i'll replay the C64 one.

Major mumbles: RATS!
and my fav: Ought to be shot!
Oh, and i'm perhaps the only person, who plays music, is not deaf, and actually likes the Detective Game theme. :D

El_Caz: Mount and blade got a 72 or something like that on metacritic and it's probably one of the lowest score games I have on my Steam catalog... and it's the one I've played the most WITHOUT any mods even.
Storyless, dated graphics, pretty much a combat simulator more than anything and it sunk many, many hours of my time. I can't say it was a "bad game" at all, but many players expect something else from it (like a plot and getting told what to do) and they get disappointed while others like it because of the mods mostly, but I thoroughly enjoyed the vanilla version until all the villages and cities were under my banner.
After I enjoyed it this much, I stopped taking reviews to heart and now base my decisions not just on reviews but also on player's opinions, demos and some other factors.

Can't agree with you anymore!
Oh, and Daikatana of course. It, was good.

Cough ... cough ... I am not sure how it would have played had I played it when it came out but one thing for sure I would have been annoyed by the save system. I tried it a couple of years ago on gametap; and it had not aged well.

There are free DS emulators, you know ;)

Yeah, i even tested a few.. The only emus i use are for c64 and the Amiga, since i'm too lazy to hook that C64 up. Never really cared for handhelds, since they had only a bunch [2-3] games that would interest me. Ah, i'll give it a try anyway. I see it's free, since it's homebrew. Thanks!:)

jungletoad: Shinobi (PS2)- 71
The Red Star (PS2)- 72
God Hand (PS2)- 73
I find those last three particularly upsetting. They are three of the best action games on the PS2 and all 3 of them retain an old-school arcade feel. Some people think they got panned unfairly by critics for being too difficult.

I haven't played enough of The Red Star to judge it fairly, but I'm right with you on Shinobi and God Hand--especially God Hand. It's pretty much the beat-em-up perfected. IGN's review is hilarious in its failure to get what the game's about.
I'm halfway tempted to say that Deadly Premonition fits the good-bad-game mold, but I'm still convinced that it's not a bad game at all, mixed critical reception notwithstanding. It's rough around the edges certainly, but it's mechanically competent, and the world and narrative it builds are superb.
