Big brother is watching us and controlling what we can use. I dont use these websites but still i think this blocking sites is all wrong.

As a borderline socialist I'm not opposed to restricting people from shit they clearly abuse. However this kind of thing is more about bending over for companies so the consumer can get fucked, which is pretty opposed to typical British sensibilities.

Unfortunate.

I'm an admin, so specific site bans (entertainment) do not apply; however, some sites are still blocked by a blanket security policy. I don't bother changing it and resort to web proxies.

Now, I use a number of content blockers, which is why potentially harmful waste traffic gets filtered out during a normal browsing session. But with a web proxy, websites shine in their untampered glory, plastered with porn ads, epilepsy-inducing gifs and the like. So the blanket security policy actually decreases security.

Luckily blocking access to webpages is unconstitutional in Germany. So this won't be an issue in the foreseeable future.

What can be worse than porn including German women? The one including British gingers...

Yeah, BT, Sky, Virgin, and a few others have been ordered to block PirateBay, and while it does work, it doesn't work well, as it's fairly easy to get around. They just block the IP. Proxies and other measures do get you to the site....It'll only really block the not-much-of-a-clue-about-t'interwebz people.
While the others have done it without complaint (or very much of one in public), BT have done a lazy job, and said they are "considering their position"....
Trouble with this is : where will it stop? Today, torrents. Tomorrow : competing shops!

Apparently the porn industry is struggling in these hard times to compete with free sites (never mind pirates) and that the old guard aren't happy only being able to finance clips for the internet instead of feature length movies (you know to get that all important dialogue and plot so we care about the characters).

I followed a porn guy's blog for a while because it was sociologically interesting and he started bitching endlessly about this. He wanted tough internet regulation so he could keep making money from watching whores fuck each other, quite ironic I thought. The simple fact is no one in such a position should be able to lobby or make policy because they're all biased to what gets them money. Politicians are supposed to be above all that.

I have no need for such sites, but still don't think this is a nice thing.
