I just don't see the point in paying $10 to watch CGi videogame cutscenes, since I try to skip them whenever possible.

It looked better than Avatar though.

I just do not see how anyone who watched Avatar on the big screen in 3d can say that something looked better(in terms of how real it looked/the technological side) or compare it to a games cutscenes....
The CGI and technology for the effects far surpassed any other film, let alone a games cutscenes.
Not simply on sheer CGI quality but the feel, the layout of the world and how the 3d pulled you into it all by giving everything depth.
The 3d wasn't used gimmickly like other films wwhere they had obvious shots that were for "3d showing off" rather every frame was given a depth to it, from blades of grass to the water and characters.

No it didn't, but to each his own I guess

Going to go see it a 2nd time in 3d tomorrow, before it leaves the cinema for good.

seen it today... twice.
with two different people. one was in imax and planned ahead. second time was with a girl... can't say no to the girl right :D

The visuals of course were stunning. a great end to the first decade of 21st century. It is beginning of cgi being indistinguishable from real footage. what started really with phantom menace (i know it is not 21st century :D) concludes with avatar.
and story... it wasn't the greatest yet i found it very appealing and gripping,a bit cliche borrowed from many sources but it was good. very interesting world, real motives, no exaggeration (nobody was really evil) and nice flow.
and that was supported by great characters...
especially the main bad Colonel Badass.
I so want to see Avatar: Stories of Colonel Quaritch. His first years on the planet with flashbacks to his war times.

Dr. Grace wasn't weaker character either. lovable, funny and heartwarming. and it is Ms. Sig. So I imagined it is really Ripley who put the gun away, changed the name and devoted her remaining life to peaceful contacts with aliens.
oh. i have a huge blue skin fetish so that makes the movie even more awesome in my eyes.
one of better movies i seen and i see what reviewers mean when they say: "Felt like Star Wars IV"

wow. hate the hype i see... cause seriously. either you saw like three movies this year + two others you really cannot call Avatar to be one of most unintelligent movies of 2009

Meh, I thought this film was pretty pants to be honest. The 3D was amazing - granted, but it wasn't this God-film it was made out to be! lol
I have a massive gripe with how the (utterly generic) female alien love interest found out where the main marine guy was hooked up in the avatar machine after his battle with the clichéd American General in his Battle Mech thing. "Okay so my love is here dying, I'll just go check in this box thing and HOLY CRAP! I've never seen his human form before but it's HIM!" lol It's a bit of a leap of faith to assume out of all the humans on the planet, *this* one is your guy lol
That aside, it was just another action flick for me. Give me Full Metal Jacket any day! :)

Jake collapsed shortly after colonel trashed the place. and he out loudly told jake about bringing him back to reality or something similar and attacked the trailer.

He wasn't plainly visible, he was lying in the battered trailer. She leaves the avatar form of Jake (the only form of him she's known) and goes to check out the trailer. She sees him and instantly knows it's Jake. That's my issue. I dunno, it might just be me picking holes unnecessarily, but when I was watching it, I gave it a squinty look because it did seem like they missed a chunk of explanation out. lol
How was she to know that the avatar form of Jake got knocked out by the planet's gas, therefore rendering him unconscious and stopping his avatar. All she does is leave Avatar Jake and go for a gander in the trailer. It could be anyone, there's a war going on, how many random people could it be, y'know?
Yeah okay, maybe she figured it all out in that instance, but it seemed a bit of a leap for me. It's a minor issue for me really, just one that stuck out and took me away from the film.

The movie is utter dull bull dung.
Pretty, but it still stinks. The environmental/political/cultural/virtual message they so wanted to tell us just falls flat and is lost amidst sparkles and flying jellyfish and dragons and the sudden influx of blue-coated furry porn on the Net. Avatar is a JRPG from the last decade turned into a movie for the masses. (Lifa Tree? OH LOOK IT'S A STREAM OF LIFE. AND VOICES OF OUR ANCESTORS. Big Whoop.)

Ah man, see I don't remember the Colonel mentioning that Jake was in the trailer. As I remember it (probably incorrectly) he said something alluding to waking Jake up. And from that she figures it all out.
Anyway, I probably missed it. And I didn't realise he had a similar face structure. He just looked blue and alien-y! lol

Yeah this bugged me a bit too. There was a line from Jake along the lines of, "This is how it always works, when someone lives on something they want, they kill them..."
Yeesh. I go to watch a film for a bit of entertainment, not to be told what to think! lol

Good idea, it really is not going to be as magic on dvd/blu ray.
