Hey. Today the first trailer for the Avatar film was released (the older one was just a teaser). A game based on the Avatar movie universe will be released at the end of november. The game will be developed by Ubisoft using Dunia engine.
And in the extraterrestrial movies, expect a new Alien prequel film in the future too, this one by Ridley Scott. :)

The CGI still looks unnatural. They should have used more conventional special effects, IMO. According to Wikipedia, Cameron said of the mix of CGI and live action: "Ideally at the end of the day the audience has no idea which they’re looking at". If that trailer is indicative of the movie as a whole, it fails to deliver on that score.
Special effects begin and end with puppets. Look closely at both the original and prequels of Star Wars and their versions of Yoda. You'll notice Muppet Yoda looks much more convincing, which is kind of sad, considering the wide gap between how much each costs to make.

In summary: Avatar needs more Frank Oz.
I am thoroughly unconvinced by Avatar. I see it as an effects laden blockbuster, which no doubt will do well at the box office. It is essentially one step on from Titanic for JC, which doesn't fill me with any hope.
Everyone who wants to hype the film spends so much time talking about the CGI and the 3D, I wonder where the story is supposed to fit in. From what I have seen so far, the story is rather uninspiring.

except that yoda muppet can't fight, which may be the reason they switched to cgi

But he can drink, phone and vomit!
It's just a movie guys. Just that. Just another step in the industry. But I admit I don't like Cameron much.
But I think I will like it, as I've always liked science fiction, and movies. I'll watch this in IMAX 3D if I have the chance.
And to all you know, there are some rumors rolling that another Star Wars trilogy is in the plans, this time in 3D. If it is true, then you'll have a 3rd Yoda to compare.

Yeah, I'm a bit underwhelmed as well. Not the most original story in the world, that's for sure.

Did you just say an Avatar game based of Far Cry 2?
this video is not available in your region. grrr.
Meh, I'd rather watched Shyamalan's Avatar (which is based on that Nickelodeon's cartoon)

"Delgo" seems to be the film most like it, although I did see this amusing little list...

and this one...

Edited and added a new featurette.
Am I the only one here who sees striking resemblance between this film and Halo? I mean... space marines with futuristic guns and dropships fighting against tall blue aliens armed with melee weapons on a physically impossible world ever so obviously designed to be visually stunning? Hmm, wherever have we seen that before? And is it just me, or does that big dropship that shows up in a few of the scenes resemble the one from Aliens a little too much? Aaaand the robotic suits are ripped straight out of the Matrix, right down to the shoulder joints positioned above the pilot's head and the way they walk. So we have crappy CGI, not a single original idea in terms of visual design, the director whose last big project turned out to be a three and a half hour borefest, and a ton and a half of hype. Somehow I'm not looking forward to this movie all that much.
