TheCheese33: He also claims to not understand the ending to District 9, and that's a perfectly understandable ending. It's open to interpretation, sure, but there's no way in hell you can't get it.

Really? He said that?
Just saw District 9, good movie, very understandable ending. I wasn't ever a big fan of Ebert, especially when he claimed video games weren't art.

"No attempt is made to resolve the situation, and if that’s a happy ending, I’ve seen happier."
Clearly he does not understand that there isn't meant to be a clear resolution, and the ending wasn't meant to be happy, either.

Blarg: Roger Ebert has a good write-up on his site about how 3D directs your attention on the effect too much and how that takes you out of the story.

TheCheese33: I disagree. Coraline, while having the gimmicky pop-out-at-you thing at the very beginning, utilized the 3D in an immersive fashion for the rest of the film. Also, Roger Ebert is a moronic flip-flopper who doesn't know art if it spat in his face. He wrote a negative review of Reservoir Dogs when it first came out (It's his opinion and he's entitled to it), but gave it a glowing review after everyone else loved it. He also claims to not understand the ending to District 9, and that's a perfectly understandable ending. It's open to interpretation, sure, but there's no way in hell you can't get it.

Did you read it?

Romulus: I dunno, without limitations it just seems 'special effects' aren't special. They're just effects now... 3D is the only 'special' thing left I guess (as in viewed through glasses).

I hope you're right, because I'm really not looking forward to smell-o-vision.

At first I thought we were talking about Airbender. SHUDDERS.
Oh well, to put it short:
It looked like he ripped off your average sci-fi film, added elements of Panzer Dragoon Orta, put in a few scenes from 10,000 B.C., sent that alien thing to some planet only to cause a war, followed by a few Mech Assault mechs, and then to top it off add your usual love scene from an Asian martial arts movie.
Seriously, what the fuck was that?

I am aware of his dislike of 3D. In several reviews of movies, he's spoken of how 3D dilutes the colors of the film. Though, now that you mention it, I am sort of interested in hearing about it, like I take interest in Bill O'Riley's insane rants. What's the link? I don't know where to find it on his site.

You made me curious, so I read the whole review.
Basically, it was him summarizing the first 2/3 of the movie (glad I didn't read that review before watching!) then complaining about how the aliens are ugly. Then he complains because the ending is ambiguous.
I'm not seeing why anyone likes his reviews.
Edit: Also *spoilers* skdalfjsdjklf the guns not being powerful? One of them makes people explode! What was he on when he watched the movie? jlskdfjlskdfjdlk *end spoilers*

holy ****, I heard about the Last Airbender movie a while back and heard about Avatar, I didn't realize it was a completely different movie. Well then I feel slightly stupid, anyways I was planning to see this thinking JC making an Avatar movie but now I'm gonna have to see what this is about (though likely I'll be seeing it)
Both District 9 and Inglorious Basterds are must see movies this summer. I have no idea what goes on in Tarentino's head but he makes one hell of a movie watching experience. The movie is focused more on the characters rather then random violence (though their is a fair share of that). So don't be expecting a full out every-minute-is-action-packed movie.
Oh I forgot to mention but I do believe I read somewhere that Cameron has been sitting on Avatar for quite a long time, apparently he wanted to wait till special effects could fulfill his vision of the movie. I'll see if I can track down the link.
Not the best source but you get the general gist of it

My only real thought from watching that trailer?
"Those attack craft kinda remind me of GDI Orcas."
Yeah. That's all I got.
I'd rather see the remake of The Wolfman....wait, I already do want to. =)
