So I purchased a <span class="bold">Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! USB Sound Card</span> and I've been using it on my desktop so far with no problems at all. Now I want to use it on my laptop and have it process the audio then output it through my TV via HDMI. The problem here is that it only has a line out and microphone jack.. so is there maybe a program that would allow me to let the sound card do the audio processing but send the output to my TV? (That's essentially what I want it to do) and if not, is there maybe something that would allow me to plug from my TV to the line out jack? I'm at a loss with this one as I have absolutely no experience with sound cards...

Six hours without a reply so I will offer this suggestion. Take a look at the Sewell Hammerhead VGA to HDMI Converter for a possible solution. Your laptop would have to have a VGA video output for this device to work but most laptops have one.

You would need an HDMI cable that is long enough to reach your TV and an audio cable with a 3.5mm male plug on both ends. Your output from the sound card would plug into the audio input on the Hammerhead with video and audio sent to the TV via the HDMI cable.

Amazon's price is cheaper than Sewell's price so . . . Sewell's site indicates the audio cable is included with the product but I don't believe the cable is included with Amazon's product.

You might also check out the Sewell Direct SW-23000 PC to TV Converter but I believe the video output is limited to RCA jacks or S-Video.

There are several other companies that offer similar solutions so search Amazon or Google for alternative devices. Hope this helps . . =)

Edit: There is a video on the Sewell site near the bottom of the Hammerhead page. Also make sure the audio cable is long enough to reach from the sound card output to the Hammerhead input.

Maybe with something like Virtual Audio Cable?
I don't have too much experience with it, only used it once to do something else but that worked.

This seems like the perfect solution! Geez that's expensive though! I guess I'll have to wait a bit until I can nab one for cheaper or save up some cash to buy that... Thanks! =D

Edit: I found <span class="bold">This</span>. Seems to do the same thing, except I don't have to buy the 3.5 Jack-To-Jack cable. =D!

The trial version has a female voice that interrupts the audio stream every so often with a reminder to purchase the software, plus it's roughly the same cost as the VGA/Audio to HDMI converter. Great suggestion though! I appreciate taking the time to help me out with this! =)

I use something like that to connect my computer to my TV, except I use DVI rather than VGA. I strongly suggest you do the same, if you have a DVI port available. DVI is a digital signal like HDMI, which means that pixels are mapped 1:1 between your computer and your TV. VGA is an analog signal however, so you run the risk of getting a poorer image quality.

I do NOT have a DVI port, however... I COULD use a VGA to DVI converter (which I do have) and put that into a DVI+Audio >> HDMI Converter, right?

No. There are 2 kinds of DVI, analogue and digital. VGA->DVI uses the analogue DVI, while DVI->HDMI requires the digital one. So you can't daisy chain VGA->DVI->HDMI.

Edit: Is there any other way to get audio to my HDTV with this sound card... Can't I just buy like a 3.5 Jack to Audio Component Cable and plug that into my TV?

You can't do VGA to HDMI without an analogue->digital converter. I was trying to find a similar solution 2 years ago, and the only ones we had found at that time weren't working reliably.

As for using a 3.5 to RCA, you will also need to have video input. I'd suggest looking if your TV has a SCART input (EIA multiport in the US), a composite or a component input. Those methods though do not support HD (as I recall, may be mistaken).

All in all, it seems that Stuff has already covered most of the points.

I already have HDMI Video on my HDTV from my laptop, so video isn't the problem... it's the audio from the sound card that's the problem.. Can't I just use the Y Cable and use my current HDMI setup?

Depends on the TV I think. Does it support using one input for video and another for sound? If yes, all is well. If not, then you need another solution.

The elegant solution would be an AV receiver. That's because I don't like VGA much. It's prone to noise and low quality cable issues.

Reading the manual, or taking a look through the TV's menu. Googling may also help, but it would probably also direct you towards the manual.

Er... well in the TV menu under Audio it says Listen To: and then the options are Stereo, Mono, or SAP (What's SAP?)
