It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Since the thread I just wrote about it was quickly buried, I'm writing another.

I'm particularly cranked about the fact that large-scale downloads such as The Witcher seem to do just fine until the hit 3GB/8.5GB, and then just come to a halt, no matter how long the Downloader has been left on.

Random question: Is your HDD fat32? If the downloader is bunging everything into one big temp file then it won't write over something like 3.7GB.
Download from your browser.

Surely no OS the Witcher 2 is compatible with would format a drive in FAT32 unless specifically told to? But yes, it could have been pre-formatted or something. It does make sense that it could be the case.

Yeah, it's probably not the case, just it halting at 3GB set off a little alarm bell, as I had similar problems years back when I was trying to download large files to a portable HDD that I didn't even notice was Fat32. Just stopped at about 3.5GB and then halted.
No, all my drives are NTFS. Even the external drive, it has to be since it's 640GB. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before that I used Windows 7 x64. I mean, I am a legacy machine enthusiast, but I certainly don't use them exclusively.

The download hasn't stopped at 3GB exactly, that was a round number. It was "3416MB/8597MB" or something.

Yes, because we all have blazing fast cable connections with no cap and 100% guarantees of no interruptions for ridiculously large files.

Big games are split into several 2GB files, to ease the whole download process.

My connection is blazing fast too, with ~100kbps max download speed.

It was sarcasm. But anyway, in my experience, downloading from the browser is always better. ;)

Yes, I know it was sarcasm when I said it. And you've probably never "experienced" satellited internet service providers. There's no way to guarantee that I can get a whole 2GB file within the five-hour, "no cap penalty" block. Speeds are never constant, and on top of that this is the rainy season, so it could very well be interrupted due to weather conditions, and I'd have to wait 'till the next morning to try again. I tried using a third party download manager, but whatever server GOG keeps their files on didn't like that.

The Downloader needs to be in good working order for people in my situation, or similar situations.

You're right, I've never experienced satellite internet connection.

If you already bought the game, just torrent it, if you can't get it through the downloader here.

I'd really rather not, since "non-commercial" releases are never reliable and not supported by the publisher/developer.

Stop making excuses for the GOG staff not to work on the Downloader. And of course there's the myriad bits of outdated information left behind in the Support pages. Since no one is clicking the link in the OP, I'll just copy-and-past the post from that link here:
The thread "Introducing the new GOG Downloader (WIP)!" isn't a default sticky in General Discussion anymore, so is it still being monitored/updated by mods or admins? I would hazard a guess and say it's not, since (excluding the stickied post on all pages) the last eight pages don't have a Staff reply, and that the stickied post says that the "Most Recent Version" is 0.9.0.1224, where it's actually 0.9.0.1376.

Also, on the Support/FAQ page under "Website Help -> Downloads and games" (which is the page you come to if you click "Help" on the Downloader's System Tray icon's right-click menu), on answer #6 "What is the GOG.com Downloader?" all the links point to version 0.9.0.1372. If you were to click on the little "?" next to "add to GOG.com Downloader" on the My Account -> My Games page, it would direct you to 0.9.0.1376 (apparently) the most recent version.

In the Support -> Games Support page, on the right hand side there's a box that says "What should you do first:", and the link in the first bulletpoint item takes you to a page marked "General: Download problem troubleshooting steps". At the bottom of this page is a link to the "Introducing the new GOG Downloader (WIP)!" page, so I can only assume it's still the default support topic for the Downloader, albeit woefully outdated.

Could really use a Staff member's attention on this.

Why would I even care if they work on the Downloader or not? :)

Just tried to help with some ideas, but, whatever...
Wait, I remember when I started pre downloading Witcher 2 with the new downloader it started chopping everything up into a bazillion little files and after it was done downloading them like that, it compiled them into a huge file. The whole point was when your connection went down. you could always resume with a small file instead of a big one. That's not the case anymore?
No idea, tbh. The last time I used the Downloader... It split The Witcher into many 10MB or 40MB files... But my router restarted at around 8x%... And it started downloading the whole thing again from the start.

=> it was removed before it could say "oh, fuck, I made a mistake".
