And if you really want some money, take a Final Fantasy 7 for PC for each half-day playtest session and sell it on eBay later. (This is or is not a joke, depending on if they still have some copies.)

But now honestly: Thanks for the info, but I don't live there.

For others: It is about playtesting video games (i.e. possibly not even the boring kind of test) where you get 35 USD or a free game for each half-day you do it.
hmm, when I was in Brighton last time, I saw some opportunities there as well to test software (Applications and Games)... but you need to speak German :)

Don't know if they found someone already, saw it about 3 years ago :)
Best place to live if you want to work in the industry in Germany is Hamburg. It's the focus of the German indie and online gaming scene.

As interesting as it sounds, I'd worry about the legality of it since I'm working on a game of my own (though of a different scale and on a slightly different medium, but why put years of labor in jeopardy?).

I'll stick with the "I was living on a remote island in the wilderness, away from mankind and completely isolated from anything you guys were doing" defense.

Even without the industry here, Hamburg is just great :D

Not for us poor buggers in Lübeck. Whenever we want to get anywhere, we have to drive through the Hamburg part of the A1, which is almost universally clogged up :-p

But yeah, it's great having a direct train connection to Hamburg and living 15 minutes by foot from the station.
Fucking Montreal.

I guess you *don't* live in the Francophone region then?
Thanks for the heads up. I applied because I thought it might be fun and I live in Montreal. Do you think they'll get me to play test Thief 4? I couldn't find the names of any other games in production.

No, but I live in the same time zone. That's not nothing, I guess.

And since everything was better like 100 years ago,* there is one association with Hamburg every German must know or he missed an integral part of our culture.

An awesome opportunity, but it's worth stressing to the hoards of people expecting a dream job that this is a job - and it means you actually putting effort into things like identifying gameplay issues in terms of mechanics, pacing and balance...it's a lot more than just saying that something "sucks" or "rocks". :)

Well, it's a half-day event open to the public.

I seriously doubt they are expecting an experienced QA's professional polish, especially for the amount they are paying (nowadays, it is not uncommon for QAs to have a university degree after all).

My guess is that they want input from regular folks who will play the game without having an official beta.

I'm not from Canada so I'll ask...any reason for your harsh words? am I in the dark regarding something here?
