LiquidOxygen80: I had a fake winupd trojan hit me embedded in something the other day. It was pretty nasty too. I killed in safe mode with malwarebytes, but by then, it had already caused some damage. Ended up having to factory default my system.
On the bright side, I now have 300 gb free and my system runs much much quicker. On the negative side, it took me an entire day to replace a bunch of stuff. X_x
wormholewizards: Where did you get the virus?
I only had 3 tabs open, this, eRepublik, Kongregate and a political blog that someone here posted up. I'm assuming I picked it up in an embedded image or ad, and that I picked it up from the blog, considering there are no ads on eRep or here. I doubt it was Kong, so that leaves only the blog.
LiquidOxygen80: Indeed. It definitely sucked, but thank goodness I know my GOG collection is easy to recover. :D
GameRager: I usually try to keep a windows restore state handy in case I have to revert it back. If that gets shitcanned and nothing works I reinstall windows & it's updates, and then my drivers(video/audio/physx/directx/), followed by needed apps like rar programs/virtual disk drives/pdf reader/browser/etc.
To make it easier I keep a folder with the latest needed apps installers and latest drivers handy in a non-system folder for ease of use.
It managed to corrupt all my system restores. X_x I was sooooo mad at that. Only option left at that point was factory default.
