Just found out about this: Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2 are going into maintenance mode. They will be F2P, or B2P, AND devs are releasing the client, database and other programs so that players can run their own servers with official support.

Devs just need to wrap up the documentation and make a friendly package for players. Hopefully it gets released in the next couple of months.
I'm really excited about this. I hope it becomes a trend for other MMOs at the end of their lifespan. I'm very hesitant about MMOs because they depend on other people continuing to pay for servers.
