Let me ask, has anyone here on GOG played this game?
Is so how is it, and is it worth $20.00?
GG has it on sale this week and I have considered picking it up, but do not want to waste my money if I can avoid it.
Thanks
No custom races, bad graphics (2D galactic map), no multiplayer (hotseat only). Grab MoO or Space Empires, much much better.
Good graphics for 2D, good single player game, much better AI and overall game than either MOO or Space Empires.

As 4X games go, it's pretty basic. I bought it in a sale for $14 and felt the price was about right, but it's not a great game. Master of Orion and Space Empires (4) are indeed better choices.
How can anyone consider Space Empires with the brain dead AI, good? Anyway, Armada 2526 is not the 4X to end all 4X but it is a fun good 4X game.

Space Empires is about freedom, its shines in multi-player. No AI today could deal with all those options.

Yes, no AI is perfect, but the Space Empires one is just balls.
Now, I am still torn after reading the posts. Is it worth $20.00 though, or better to wait on a better sale?
Thanks again.

In my opinion it is well worth the money if you like 4X games. The game is also well supported, 3 I think patches so far and another two are in the works, adding things, etc.

The game is a "sequel" to a much older game Armada 2525, released in 1991 for DOS.
Yes, that doesn't help with the song at all, but I just thought I would share that bit of info.

Does the Nvidia problem still exist when entering battles? I read it on the site, but not sure if it has been fixed or not. I run an Nvidia card.

I was a beta tester for this game and left a few weeks before it closed. It's not a good 4x game, SE4 is more intuitive and fun. It started at $40 because the guys who made it are guys who worked on games like Rome: Total War before and thought it was hot shit, I will be the first to say A2526 isn't worth $20 from my experience and I heard the actual game is not good post beta either.

As far as 4X games go: Do you like to design your ships? Do you like turn-based combat? Do you like an expansive tech tree?
If so, don't get it.
Now: do you like a diplomacy system that is flexible enough without being overcomplicated? Do you like real-time combat (flaky, and a bit clunky, but ocasionally interesting)? Do you like a streamlined, functional interface? Do you like generally good AI?
Then get it.
For $20, it's not a waste of money, but it's not the best deal ever. If you like streamlined, combat-oriented 4X games, and if you don't care with the "indie" look of Armada 2526, you might find it worth it.

The interface was clumsy, unless they did a COMPLETE overhaul since beta of interface, and the screens of current game show they didn't, the interface was not streamlined at all. The real-time combat was worse than you say it is but I believe that was one thing the devs were working on after beta closed. And for the AI, again from my experience 3 weeks before release it was really bad. The screens look identical to the beta I played and I don't think much has changed other than a few sounds and pictures and I personally know it's a sub-par game in every aspect.

The problem is, you base your negative comments on the game from playing the beta. I from the final+ few patches later game.
While I haven't touched the beta, I played with the release code and the game has several changes since then. You could go to the official forum and check the release notes for each patch.
As to the question Faithful asked about Nvidia, I don't know. I wasn't even aware of any specific issue since I do not have an nvidia card any more.
You might want to check the official forum for more info.
