Yeah, "racism" in video games is a very serious topic that needs immediate attention.

Oh boi.
Sidenote :

Does Australian web have a 'Ban Watch' ? OP seems on the lookout like a networked David H.
If that's the case, I hope you have the cute sidekicks to keep your spirits up.

I'm considering changing my forum title to "Last Sane Man in Australia"
Now I'm actually interested in this game. I wasn't at first, but I think I'll go check it out again.

EDIT: Oof, it's $20. Well, I may still be interested, but that's probably the reason I passed it up in the first place.

JaqFrost: Since I haven't played the game, I can't offer an opinion on the content, but the reason I have been hesitant to buy it is all due to the topic of colonization and whether the game handles that in a way I can stomach.
You can do whatever, if you want to help the locals and be nice to everyone, you can. It's also one of the best games that came out this year.

The game does a terrible job of explaining itself.

For the production values the game has, it's a bargain.
My PC can't run it, but I'm getting it at the first sale I can afford . Take THAT Argentina !
That probably means it'll be unavailable in Uruguay too.

Probably. Unfortunately, my backlog is large enough that it feels a little wasteful to buy a game for $20. On the other hand, I was considering buy a fountain pen for $40...decisions, decisions.

Keep your sight on the good things, some policies of your country may suck, on the extremely far other side your chances to die of friendly or unfriendly fire dramatically dropped recently. And that is no litlle feat.

(Sorry for derailling the thread from racism in videogames to gun control in real life .... I think I'm some kind of unaware kind troll ... I should check on that).

While I don't like censorship, I also don't like judging others simply for not sharing my views. I would prefer to hear from someone from Argentina as to whether or not they find this offensive and why.

Good point, I think only Haitians, Dominicans and Mexicans can really be offended by E:C.
I'm kind of surprised that more of Central/South America has not been up in arms about the game. Doesn't mean that I won't buy it when it goes on discount though.
Couldn't find anything about this on the internet (I don't watch TV), and only one article in spanish (from Spain...). I don't know what the article posted says, and I think this is one of those cases in which you cannot use translation software. Don't want to take one thing for another.
I'll just say that Tucumán is a very small province of Argentina. The smallest in fact. And this just seem like one guy (with no power whatsoever) complaining. I can't say for sure what will happen (there is so little info!) but it looks more like... well yelow journalism. We'll see.
As far as I know, the game isn't available here, but due to issues with the localization in spanish (it's not even available in Steam in Spain). Furthermore, most games have no retail releases in Argentina, so it's possible that it will not be released here at all, but it has nothing to do with censorship.

... and if anyone wants to know I'm against censorship in any way, shape or form. And to tell you the truth, as much as I dislike A LOT of things around here, censorship isn't one of them, as normally there is none. Hopefully that's not changing right now...

Edit: just found an article from an argentinian newspaper. The guy is asking to have the game's webpage removed from search engines, not the game banned. That's still terrible news, but... not the same, right? I don't think anyone will take the guy seriously, anyway.
