If you refer to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, I'm inclined to purchase it thanks to the available demo. Maps seemed to be too small, cam view too narrow, and ridiculously muscle-bound characters were bit off-putting, though.

It was fun but it didn't exactly dazzle me, so I'm not in a hurry. Either I'll buy it on GOG or I'll wait for 4€ Steam sale.

keeveek: And this is why sales were invented ;)
Exactly, I'll have to wait an eternity untill X-COM will be on sale to buy it. And then I will not get "Guile" unless he will be available as a DLC. :(((

anjohl: So they are hoping for X sales at full retail price, Y sales at 3/4's of that, Z sales at half, etc. You are still fitting into their business plan. I am not telling you to pirate it, I am just saying your protest is ineffective.

bansama: It's perfectly effective as far as my wallet is concerned and that is all that matters. They wanted to make a certain profit by increasing the base price here, I am not going to be a part of that profit as I am not buying at that higher price. Rather simple really.
All I am saying is that you fit their business plan, so you are thus not protesting anything.

shadowreaper1989: I know i am :-) Do you think it going to be any good?

Any way i digress Which Xcom was the best and why?

I believe it was Apocalypse b casue it was the first in the series i played and the first PC game i discovered graphics ment next to nothing gameplay and ambition means alot more. Since then i started to play alot older games i used to be one of those move with the times people but not any more.

oldschool: Hell Yes! After viewing this demo playthru, I am going to pick this up on a future Steam sale. I only have one question, Is Steam going to be the only viable way to play this game? Or like older Firaxis titles, can it played stand alone? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Last time I checked, the Steam version was very bugged and half-broken. I'd get a DOS version if possible.

The Steam version of what? Apocalypse or the Demo? I played both without problems. (didn't finish an entire game of apocalypse though, but a fair bit in at least)

And yes, I'm looking forward to Xcom very much. 9 more days to go.

(as long as it's steam-only, it just doesn't exist.)

Of Apocalypse - it had some speed issues among other things, and was very crash prone. I bought it on day one and never got it to work well myself.
Pre-ordered a couple days ago after playing the demo.. Really looking forward to it.

Oooohhh lucky you, I envy you so much. :(((
If I'm completely honest with myself, I will probably buy it on release. I won't pre-order it, because the demo was lacking, but the moment it will hit the shelf I won't be able to resist ...

Again with the demo...
Did you try the demo editor yet to see a bit more of how a later game mission may go?
And no, I'm not stalking you (I think)...
Edit: Added link to the editor.

I would PREORDER if I was you. Did you see that you get the bonus classic Guile-like soldier from the original X-COM with some extras, BONUS items for TF2 and CIV V for free if you PREORDER the game on STEAM? If you want to buy the game anyway then PREORDER is the right thing to do (in my opinion).

*gives Retro_Gamer a "ask me about PREORDERS" pin*.

retro_gamer: PREORDER!
Alright you two. I pre-ordered it!

Damn, how could I resist a new X-Com for so long. I want it now! Dammit!
