WTF? GOG no longer has GOTHIC 2 (or 3 for that matter, but who cares...lol)

When did this happen????

Gothic 2 (and 1) are two of the greatest games of ALL TIME. And they're old. It doesn't get any gooder (lol) than Good Old Games like Gothic 2 (and 1).

And why would they still have 1 but not 2????

And why is my library still missing titles????

????????????????????????????????????????????
That happened when Nordic packed up their 35+ titles and left a few months ago.

edit: Gothic 1 is still here because it has a different publisher.

Strangely, all of those Nordic games were here and on a flash sale about a week ago. They will most likely be back again eventually.

Well shit.

I didn't come here for quite a few months and I guess I missed that, or don't remember, but most likely missed.

Okay Nordic, you are now on my list. Too bad for you I'm a pretty big spender when it comes to games. No more of OFG's money for you though.

Well shit, and I just gave them some money during a sale just recently, are you sure it was a few months ago? I thought this sale was like right around X-Mas???? (my memory, IT SUCKS.... can you replace RAM sticks in the brain?)

Oops, I see your edit does mention the recent sale.

Well shit.

That's the strange thing, those games came back *just* for a flash sale, made no sense at all.

Here is the thread from August:

On an unrelated, totally OT topic.....

I just, for the first time ever, deleted something in my registry. Now I realize I should've asked this BEFORE I did it, but.... what can I say, I'm an idiot. But I guess a system restore could be done if I've done something wrong.

Here's the thing, I had Two Worlds installed on Steam and couldn't get it to recognize my controller, so I installed my GOG version, and made the recommended registry adjustment (this can be found by reading the Two Worlds entry in the GOGMIX "Games that Love the XBOX 360 Controller"). And it worked.

So then I "removed local content" from the Steam version, and....... the GOG version no longer worked. A box popped up saying the game was installed incorrectly and must be re-installed. So I wondered WTF was going on, and I uninstalled it and then went into the REGISTRY and deleted the entire section in there under Reality Pump (since Two Worlds was the only Reality Pump game I've ever had installed here).

This brings up two questions:

Number 1) (and most important) Did I royally screw up anything by deleting that registry entry?

Number 2) Why wouldn't that registry entry be removed when I uninstalled it anyway???? Could this have something to do with "deleting local content" in Steam versus uninstalling the game??? Should one always uninstall a Steam game rather than removing local content?

1. I don't think so.
2. Developers being lazy or uncaring. Lots of time uninstalling stuff leaves registry garbage behind.

THANK YOU. Very much appreciate you answering.

Well if you only deleted Reality Pump section and nothing else. You should be fine, but I'd backup the registry any time you go in there with a flame thrower just in case ;-)
Use a program like CCleaner to clean and backup your registry. Always backup before making any changes in the registry to be on the safe side.
In my opinion, GOG could practice a bit more transparency concerning this matter.

What, all the possible registry entries needed by any game in catalog?!

Registry handling should total responsability of the game developers, not the digital store that sells the game.

Also, installation programs (by GOG or else), for safety reasons, typically opt to remove those registry keys created during installation; that is, the keyd known by the setup code itself... the ones created by the games (while changing controls, graphic options, whatever) after that, they are unknown to the setup process and so more often than not, left there to avoid any unforeseen trouble.

Yes, this usually imply quite a messy registry, but this is also one of the reasons why, gladly, it is being less and less used in recent years for this kind of stuff, in favor of good old config files on the HDD

Does anyone know why the registry exists in the first place? On Unix everything is a config file and DOS used to be the same as well. I never understood what the advantage of the registry was, it just lumped all settings together into an incomprehensive mess. Is there something I'm missing?

I've no idea what's up with TW, but some GOG games use registry keys for compatibility reasons under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers -- some of those might have been set by GOG to ensure the games work, if they're not in the Application Compatibility Database.

yes but, what will become of our homes? will milk be made available? How will we transport the elderly during these times of registry crisis?

Revo Uninstaller

Pro is better but at least that version is actually freeware and not time limited. There's a 30 day trial for Pro though. It is excellent to get rid of garbage left behind but it requires admin rights and some basic knowledge so you don't end up deleting too much.
