Linux user. But for work, I occasionally tote around a second-hand MBP I got on the cheap, mainly for PhotoShop. Like most, I find their hardware to be grossly overpriced for what it is, but my next rig will likely be Hackintosh-compatible, as when I actually work in a full GUI (terminal slut here), I enjoy OS X.

The filesystem is complete and utter ass, however.

From around 1986 to 2011 I used only dos/windows PCs. I bought a windows laptop in around 2006 which was good, but crashed fairly regularly and eventually died after around 3 years. In 2009 I bought another laptop. Again, it crashed every now and then and then died after about a year and a half. I spent a bit of money getting it fixed (I hadn't backed up the data). It died again a few months later. I was angry.

I looked at buying another laptop. I wanted something that was good quality and stable. Money wasn't a concern for me. The prices of the laptops I was looking at were getting close to the price of a macbook. I thought my iphone was good. I use itunes so I figured, why not? Last year I bought a macbook.

I am very happy with the decision. I don't have much interest in modern AAA games (I never have) and macs are ideal for classic gaming. Boxer is a great program, scummvm works perfectly and the various incarnations of wine work very well with most old games. In addition, most indy developers release mac versions of their games, and I am really starting to enjoy what those games have to offer.

I do all my gaming on my mac . I have a 50+ game backlog so there are more than enough games available for my tastes. The other mac apps are also very nice to use. I also find the mac to be very stable and minimal concerns with viruses is nice. I am still learning to use it definitely not using it to its full potential, but am happy.

LOL, I hear ya..as I said, I really have no desire for one. No IPhone, IPad, ITouch, IAnything. It really seems more and more, a craze and or obsession with the younger crowd as time goes on. My girlfriends kids both have ITouches, and the older one keeps yammering for an IPhone. The only way he's gonna get one, is if he saves his pennies (and a hell of a lot of them) cuz he ain't getting one from me or her, lol (or the data plan to go along with it)

Of course I am a Big Mac user, although I also like Whopper. Oh wait...

I wouldn't even consider a Mac for gaming, but I'll probably be investing in one in the future for audio/compositional work.
Part of it probably has to do with the fact that we as musicians don't always like having to deal with computers. We're too "ahhtistic" :3. So the fact that mac makes it easier (at least from what I understand) to get a complicated audio system set up is pretty attractive.

Then again, I'm not really an expert at all. So perhaps I've just bought into the hype :P

Basically, I think it's an ease of use thing rather than a "you can only do this on mac" thing.

I have both Macs and PCs. I love them both for different reasons. I feel like the Mac interface is smoother and it is a more elegant operating system. But when I need to do Excel spreadsheets and want to mod games, PC is the only way to go.

Linux on mac? How did you get that working, I tried to Install Linux under windows on bootcamp, but could never get the sound drivers to work correctly.

I have absolutely no reason to use a Mac. I have Windows for gaming because of the sheer range of games, I use Linux for everything else as well as the odd game that works under it. I have no reason to use MacOS, because it offers neither the gaming capacity of Windows nor the freedom of Linux.

And personally, I don't find Macs particularly easy to use. I've always found Mac menu navigation to be extremely counter-intuitive. Nor do I find the extremely excessive price in any way justifiable.

Same here. I have a Windows / Linux dual boot system. Macs look 'cool'. You do however pay more and get less.

Personally, no. At work I'm an occasional reluctant Mac user. I support about a dozen Macs (along with 1000-odd Windows machines) and every time I use them I dislike them a little more....
