Ah, Ok, so you mean it's much buggier then the 1st one. Yeah, I can live with that. :-) But it was hard to achieve that we can give them that. :-)))
So is it unfinished? I don't know i'm on the last level so haven't finished it but was the 1st one ok in that matter? Think the levels after Prypat. Those weren't close to finish either. The truth is this game was/is too big for GSC. I mean in simple manpower.
It's not a PC game, but Sonic 2 on the megadrive was not only the best game in that stage of of the series, it was the best Sonic game ever made. S3&K just isn't quite the same.
Baldur's Gate 2 was better than Baldur's Gate 1, Diablo 2 was better than Diablo 1, Slaves to Armok: God of Blood 2 was better than Slaves to Armok: God of Blood 1... well, I haven't played 1, but is already an incredible game, and it's only on version [url=http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/df_28_181_40d8_win.zip]0.28.181.40d8.

EyeNixon: Let's leave popular opinion out of the mix as a deciding factor and which games were actually better.

gpaulusz: How do you that? The only objective thing you can measure in a game's goodness is popularity. Nothing more nothing less. Yeah it's a pain in the ass but it's true. In my opinion Titanic was rubbish but it is and will be the highest grossing movie in the history for a long time (maybe Avatar, fingers crossed) so maybe it is really that good just i can't understand it. :-). And of course i am pretty sure you haven't played all RPGs of all time so how do you know isn't there one which is much better then anything you've ever played? That's the same with Morrowind lovers. How could you say that they have never played HoMMII? Maybe some of them did, but maybe just maybe that game wasn't for them.

Look at Morrowind, look at the bugs, look at the design, look at the unbalanced stats, the undefined and plastic combat, the drudging conflict of customization versus development, the game is badly made. How much fun you had is entirely subjective, but it's completely and entirely obvious that Morrowind's mathematical systems were hackneyed and half-assed, I've played countless RPGs with far tighter systems and better coding.

To add to your list would be Icewind Dale 2 being better then Icewind Dale 1 despite the ruleset change. (ooh i wonder if people would disagree on this one)

I never noticed any of those issues. explain, please.
well gog seems to think that broken sword 2 is the best since they've not released 1 (I assume there's actually legal or techical reasons why not).
I think that Tomb Raider 2 was probably the best in the original CoreDesign series but the general consensus is that angel of darkness basically destroyed the series. Good thing Legend turned out so damned well.
There are exceptions to the rule though, I doubt that anyone could claim that GTA2 was better than GTA3

You have just used 3 and a half rows to say "because i say so". None of that was objective. The only thing you can say about the coding is the ultrahigh system requirements which is really bad.
I thought about your SMW comment. The way I see it is that SMB3 paved the way for SMW with it's open world concept. Agreed, it was a more polished version and looked quite better but that was due to it being on the SNES. I had a hard time adjusting to the 3D concept with M64 and then SMS really didn't do it for me. The only 3D one that I've enjoyed has been SMG but only because you are occasionally presented with a 2D-esque view to solve certain puzzles.
Actually, I forgot about one of them, NSMB on the DS. I felt that was a fantastic game and I think it may be my favourite one so far. I think Mario is at his best in a strictly side scrolling view but the addition of the faux-3D in NSMB added just that little special something. (Like the remake of Bionic Commando, wow is that fun!)

RandomSkratch: I like your style :-P

JudasIscariot: Thanks. I hate getting into flamewars over bits and bytes when there so many more things to get worked up about...like Fallout 3 XD.

Oh yeah Paper Mario. (Sheesh how many games has this plumber done?!..) (actually we don't need to hijack this thread lol)
I never played the original Paper Mario, only the Wii version. I did enjoy it but it grew very... I don't want to say old.. it just became too long and I lost interest. Never did finish it.

that's typically how these games are.
Anyway, back on topic (sort of) I really didn't enjoy Super Mario Bro.'s 2 (ie. the lost levels in super mario all stars). Although I did enjoy Doki Doki Panic (i.e. super mario bro's 2 american). I just feel that Doki Doki Panic isn't a super mario bros game, they're completely different if you compare super mario bros to super mario bros 3.. they're very similar.
So I would think that the lost levels is not an example of the second in the series being the best.
