Are the the same thing pretty much, or are they like GOG to CDPR?

Origin is run and owned by EA,

More comparable is Steam and Valve.
They are but two heads of the DRM beast .
No, they're like Valve and Steam. :p
Origin is to EA what Steam is to Valve. They are the same thing, in essence.

EDIT: Ninja'd big time :P

By this point EA got the trait "arbitrary".
I think it's pretty despicable naming their DRM client after the great Origin Systems. That's like raising someone's dear mother as a zombie and then pretending it's alive and well.

Origin System may not be the source of the name..

That we know of.
I believe it is, EA acquired the trademark to the name from the company.

I think it is to do with:

1 - The beginning of something.
2 - The source of a river, information, goods, etc

From Middle English origine, from Latin origo (“beginning, source, birth, origin”),

Indeed. That's like comparing skim milk to actual milk, in a word = Unholy.
Origin?

Oh hov original.

What does that have to do with anything? That the word "origin" has all sorts of strong and positive meanings doesn't change the fact that EA is responsible for the downfall of an amazing company and is using its same name for something else now. It's like killing a family member and then naming a child after him/her.
