HotfireLegend: the first game doesn't really feel like an RPG, it feels more like a rythm combat strategy game.
Well, i mean no disrespect, but calling a videogame an RPG or not is a very weak statement nowadays. It doesn't imply/guarantee any specific mechanics anymore. Between us, you may think than TW1 is less of an RPG than the 2, and in my book no Witcher videogame is a proper RPG, just a question of sensibilities (character creation and all). But I see your point, TW1 has less the TheElderSandbox vibe than the 2nd, I agree but ....

HotfireLegend: Also, probably due to its age, the story isn't 'portrayed' as well as in TW2. Let's use the first cutscene upon entering the first village ...
The reason I love the witcher 1 is how the story, through the messy journal, sorts itself out. The witcher 2 is somewhat more straightforward with a more cinematic approach. I completely understand the appeal though, the flow of TW2 is great, but I really prefer the 'investigation' approach of the first. Then, I found combat in the first witcher a bit more clever.

HotfireLegend: It might seem like very minor things, but the differences between TW1 and TW2 are very profound to me.
I can understand that.
My point is : don't assume that because TW2 has a lot of things made better than the first, people can't consider the first to be superior.
I have two copies of The Witcher 1 (one purchased through Amazon and one given to me). I tried it a few years back and realized that it's too twitch oriented for me. Obviously the sequels are even more arcade-y. They seem great, and I'll probably watch a good "let's play" one of these days.
I got The Witcher when they gave it for free if you bought another game, I haven't played it so far because my old computer is not powerful enough in the graphics department to run it properly and I have lots of other games to play anyway. Not that I wouldn't like to try it.

I honestly dislike the combat in TW2. I'm playing on easy just to enjoy the story...

Tooms: Is there anyone left who hasn't played the first Witcher and if not, why the heck not?
I own around 200 PC games on GOG and Steam, a few more in boxes, dozens more on Android, and about a dozen on PS3.

I've played maybe about twenty games in the past five years. Completed about half a dozen, I think.

The Witcher is not one of them. I'll get to it.

I don't know why I keep buying games... planning for retirement, I suppose.

pimpmonkey2382: Why ask why?

Tooms: Definitely don't try Bud Dry.
They still sell this?

And I've never played any of the witcher series... I have one on my wall, but never tried it yet ... No particular reason I guess.
