I just started playing it on Ubuntu and the frame rate is just so horrible that it's making me feel nauseous when playing. I tried the nofixestep and disabling the vsync but the game just runs in slow motion. If I were to guess, it's probably running at sub 30 frames. Ugh. Ayuda!

Odd, I haven't had any issues running it in Mint. Barring any solutions on the Bastion forums, have you considered playing the windows version via WINE?

1 gig Ram
7300 GT (AGP) 512MB

It ran a pretty good speed for me and with default settings.

It just feels so wrong to try it on Wine when there's the MonoGame version. For specs:
Intel i5 750 2.6 GHz
GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB
6 GB ram

I don't even know a Bastion forum exists. Last time I mailed support months ago when I had difficulties getting the game to even run, they just snobbed me.

Ah same CPU and RAM as me so those can't be the culprit. I know it may feel wrong but it's better to play the game than get stuck with one being problematic. I was more referring to either the dev forum, or the Bastion forums on GameFAQs. I know it isn't the most pleasant of places but sometimes it's the best to look. Also you could try either the Ubuntu or Mint forums since they both run off similar kernals they may be able to provide you with a more concise answer.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but if I think of anything else I'll post it here. :) I know I have issues running my borrowed copy of SS2 in Mint. :)

Played and loved Bastion.

It ran flawlessly on a supported platform (Windows 7.)

I used to try and game on Mint, but then I got an ATI card and things turned pear shaped. Now I just accept my Windows overlords...

I would probably try the company's website (though I'm not 100% on the addy you can probably google it) but that's my best bet. Ideally you could also try to see if they have a twitter feed or something too if that isn't the case. Other than that, I'm not too sure. That sucks Wine won't run it. Hopefully future updates fix that issue. That sucks, have you tried turning down any specs to see if that fixes the issue.

Unfortunately the copy that was running on Mint was a friend's copy at the time (we were configuring one of my rigs here and doing a test), so I can't really test it on any other distro myself. I wish i could be of more assistance but as it stands I have nothing to suggest.

That's OK. The website is supergiantgames.com, I believe and I sent their support mail once when I had (other) issues getting the game to work. I've since learned that either the email is unattended or they just don't give a f**k.

I dropped the resolution to 1280x720 from the 1920x1080 and it ran EXACTLY the same. The main menu is silky smooth but when the game starts, it starts to make me puke. I could go lower to 1024x768 but will it even be playable at that point?

I'm sure it is playable, but I see your problem. This is honestly the first I've encountered someone having issue with the game. You could always try ask people on http://forum.linuxmint.com , since it runs a variation of the Ubuntu kernal they may have some ideas how to fix your problem. I know I've searched there for issues to some things and found what I was looking for rather quickly.

I really like mint myself, and it does have several desktops (MATE, Cinnamon, XFCE, KDE) and Mint Debian. Thankfully it's not restricted to Unity, I like Unity in some respects and can't stand it in others. I recommend it if you are looking to switch distros, and like most Linux distros has relatively easy LiveUSB/DVD and install processes.

Got it from HIB V but haven't played it yet.

Since I just got to Ubuntu 12.10... I'm not looking to switch distros anytime soon. I also am liking Unity desktop quite a bit.

I have a hunch that it's compiz contributing to the performance hit, but I have no factual evidence to back that up.

Well, that's cool you like Unity, that's the beautiful thing about Linux, different flavours for different people.

Hmm, that's actually a possibility I didn't even think of. Actually Nadia (Mint 14) is going to be based off of Ubuntu 12.10 if I'm not mistaken. 13 is based off 12.04, I know that much for certain.
