Long shot, but I'm curious as to how the keys are being handled in terms of release.

Ideally looking for someone from the UK or Australia or another region (some parts of EU?) where the release is not for a few more hours or days.

I'm tempted to buy it now considering a game I was going to get has had it's release held back, but as the Steam release here isn't until April 14 now, I want to see if getting a key from GamersGate is likely to unlock the game earlier.

Off topic: This game still makes me curious. Not about the game, more about why it's being promoted as some, big thing. They could have called it Red Dawn: The Game (only with North Koreans instead of Russians, er, did we say North Koreans, we meant generic people... and stuff).

With that said, my view is always tainted when I see a shooter come out on XBox 360, which I consider to be a terrible shooter platform. I always assume the PC version will be crippled as hell, due to this.

I'd make an exception for Metro 2033 though, just because it's got mutants and radiation, I have a soft spot for those like most have a soft spot for zombies.

Okay, /off topic, carry on, my deepest apologies.

As far as I read... this game is supposed to make people kind of angry at the situation they're thrown in. It's not your typical shooter where you're Rambo fighting in a foreign land, but quite the opposite. It's your home turf, invaded by people who are being downright abusive with civilians and such. The developer is trying to pull at some heart strings and make people feel mad at their pixelated enemy. It seemed interesting in concept to me, even if I'm not from the states, but I'm not into buying first day releases with a computer that can barely run modern games.

Well, it does seem like they have a more involved story, so I guess if the campaign isn't the typical 6 hour crap they like to pull with shooters these days, and isn't 25 hours of Doom 3 style "Oh look another closet with a monster jumping out of it!", then I guess that's admirable. It's just not one of those games that registered in my mind "Ooh, pre-order this!" It doesn't strike me as de facto outstanding (though it may turn out that way).

Uh, are you sure that Steam will let you download the game? Considering their past shenanigans with Mafia, they may just not let you download the game at all since your IP is Japanese.

They can't stop me downloading the retail install files from GamersGate. All I need to know is how the key is treated in regions where the game is not currently available.

The Shogun 2 keys, for example, unlocked on the US release time for Japan -- but I don't know if the US was the last region to see that game unlock.

As far as story length goes, I've heard you can blow through it in about 5 hours, and that they're really more focused on multiplayer. Seems about standard for FPS' these days. Anyways, I've also heard that the gameplay is as standard as it gets, but the real strength of the game is the setting.
All very nice if you live in the US but I don't. Also a little hesitant to try and find someone to "gift" it, until I know how it will unlock. I take it, no one has an answer in that respect?

Doesn't sound like it, Amazon doesn't allow gifts for it or I'd say go that route.

They may not allow gifts of Steam keys, but nothing stops you from simply emailing the key to someone. I don't remember who, but someone on these forums purchased an Amazon Mafia 2 key for me like that. So that's not an issue. The issue is whether the game will unlock and be playable immediately instead of 1+ months down the line.

With the Mafia 2 key, it was worth the risk as it was only $13 or so. But at $40...

How are/did you enjoy Mafia 2, by the way? Was it good?

Very good. Completed the main story and enjoyed that a lot. The DLC stories, not as good as the change in format really didn't suit them. Thinking about it, it was you who gifted that to me from Amazon wasn't it?
Looking at the current exchange rate, I may as well risk a key from Amazon as its price today alone has dropped from around 3300 JPY to around 3200 JPY. So may as well take advantage of that.

I expect with an Amazon key the worst case scenario is needing a VPN to add the key to Steam and then having to wait till April 14th (or whatever date it next slips to) before it unlocks. By which time there's bound to be a workaround to remove the Steam requirement.

So if someone can help with that, let me know.
