orcishgamer: I'm pretty sure this is the answer. Seriously, "Solid Snake", i.e. "cold" blooded reptile that's "solid".
Yep, sounds like it to me too. Plus the Wikipedia article states that Konami started publishing PC games in October 1982. It's on the web so it must be TRUE!
Shadowrun/ FASA Corporation

I believe that's the name of the developer. That company has since been closed though and I can't find who exactly owns the license now, but it appears to be a book printer named Catalyst Game Labs.
Going for obscurity, I'll guess:

Microsoft for the publisher and Rex Chance for the hero.
its probably already guessed by someone

so i go for my avatar and square enix - final fantasy 8. squall is a bit cold and a loner.
Because I thought Microsoft Games Studios published the PC version of the game I am going Microsoft Games Studios/Metal Gear Solid (even if I am totally wrong it is at least balanced - MGS/MGS!)
Gex/Eidos (Square-Enix-eidos or whatever the heck they want to call themselves)

I do suspect that the corrects answers are Thief & Deus Ex, but those were already taken :( Gex kinda fits the second one though.

As all the logical choices are taken, I will say Death to Spies.

By the way It would be a nice addition GOG catalog.
Eidos/Tomb Raider

(thanks for the contest Rager!)
(P.S. The new Tomb Raider chick looks more like a man! :D)

Danteveli already picked MGS i'm afraid.

The licence for the old FASA games Battletech & Shadowrun is actually owned by two companies. Microsoft owns the rights to video game part, while Catalyst game labs own the rights to the tabletop part. Catalyst game labs is actually doing a darn fine job with their books, releasing a lot of high quality source books for both Shadowrun & Battletech (I would rank Catalyst as one of the best current RPG publishers/creators).
lol here i went wth lucasarts? star wars?

Should I change QC's entry to read Microsoft/Shadowrun then?

no i meant the one you put on solved was star wars . all the clues given didnt go in that direction so when i looked at it i thought for a second that lucasarts would have been the new publisher and star wars thursdays game.

i think its gonna be hitman, thief or whatever but since thats already guessed i stick with final fantasy 8
