He speaks the truth, your excellency.
Do something stupid, shitty, inane and pointless and it's sure to sky rocket.

Failing that..... go with the kittens.

wpegg: When I was trying to get people to watch JourneyQuest, they did a series of motivationals, if you can cut your work together like this, it might make for nice adverts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOXWdZvbRj8

Maybe you should incorporate it in the next GOG publicity stunt.

WE WILL HURT THIS CAT IF YOU DON'T BUY GAMES!
I'd say a combination of viral techniques and Reddit. Controversial marketing techniques tend to work well but can also backfire. There was one dev once that used the joke "buy our game or we'll drown these kittens". I can't remember who it was exactly, and it backfired massively, but it got them attention.

Any kind of success with a video will come with its fair share of trolls and haters so you'll just have to grin and bear that.

Of course, make sure that your videos are worth watching first :)

Maru is all the cat the internet will ever need, but there's never anything wrong with more cats ^^

Don't laugh; discordiac spent a day trying to convince me to use his cat in our next video that we're preparing to release on our YouTube channel. -_-

Do something stupid, shitty, inane, and pointless... with a kitten or five?

Don't hurt it/them though.
Shoot your grandma's laptop. Or, if you only want the attention of passionate gamers, say something mean about Steam, or praise DRM. (See, here they come! *points finger*) :P

I can attest to this one.

My gf goes crazy over videos involving cute furry animals doing cute things.

Really depends on the audience you are targeting, but at the very least, you'll get plenty of women with cute kitten videos.

a cat with a hat, genius.

Quick everyone, let's fund a kickstarter "hat for the cat". It would be so useful to convince publishers to come onboard...

well... whoever enjoys MST3K and/or Unskippable, basically. The videos involve lots of riffing.
Provide content that no one else does.

I have a little under a million views on the channel I started years ago, which isn't bad since I just sporadically post videos of obscure japanese games despite not knowing the language. I probably posted the first legit Romancing SaGa 1 Saruin fight (most of the others I saw at the time were hacked or used glitches). I also got a comment from the composer of the NES Castlevania on one of my videos.
