RafaelLopez: Hey there.

Been a while since Jade Empire has been originally released. Back in the days, I recall people complaining of a number of things. I seem to recall complaints about bugs, also that the game had terrible graphics, boring story, exceedingly long dialogs, that kind of thing. From the trailer, graphics look sharp to me. I can't be sure about story or bugs.
They graphics aren't terrible and I played it about a year or so ago. Wasn't buggy for me either. I would guess the fighting might get boring for some

I would be very interested in a game focused in martial arts, particularly if combat is dynamic and varied, perhaps with different fighting styles that evolve over the course of the game
Have you tried the game Kung Fu Strike? Check it out, you might like it; it should be cheap on Steam or elsewhere. NOTE: play the game with a controller, it's HEAPS better :D You might also be interested in Age of Wushu. It's a free to play game with fighting styles à la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Other than that, how's the game aged? Are controls good overall?
The game seems to have aged well IMHO, although it's been a year or so since I've played it

EDIT: added in links and another game to try

An example of game that shines in this respect is Sleeping dogs, but I'd be plenty happy with something like Gothic 1-2, Witcher 1-2, where you have different combinations or learn different effects over time, and have to time your defense with precision to win. That's very different of Gothic 3 for example, where whoever clicks the attack mouse button faster, wins.

The game has plenty of styles to try out, I think you'd enjoy it. I played it on the Xbox and the controls worked fine, my guess is that you might want a gamepad. Those who played it on PC might be able to help more on controls.

As stated above it's liking playing a kung-fu movie(with both the good and bad, fun and flashy action but not the best story. It gets the job done though, it could've been better but wasn't putting me to sleep)
I found it enjoyable although martial arts isnt my thing the game plays well and has a good story. One of Biowares gems before they became EA bitch.

AFnord: The game plays more like KOTOR than Gothic or The Witcher.
Yes. But I liked Jade Empire definitely more than KOTOR. KOTOR is OK-ish. Jade Empire is good.

Oh hey, me too. In particular, KOTOR has the dullest combat I think I've ever seen; Jade Empire could be more challenging, but at least it's fun.

I found KOTOR to overall be better, with more well developed characters and a more interesting main storyline, but the setting in Jade Empire is better.
I've only played the X-Box version, but going from that I can say's it's well worth getting. A little short in my opinion, but that's the only real complaint I can make... and it's a pretty shoddy one, really. Aside from that personal nitpick, everything else it offers is classic Bioware-flavored goodness.

Well, to each his own. Tastes differ after all. But at least we agree that the two games are similar gameplay-wise. :-)
Thanks folks, you guys convinced me.

Two things in addtion to that:

To solve the "too bad graphics"-issue:
Force SGSSAA, it works fantastic!
(if you don´t know how to do, PM me)

To disable 30 FPS-Frame-Lock:
Search fo JadeEmpire.ini and change ClampFPS=1 in ClampFPS=0!
Oh, but of course you have to set another frame limit or use V-SYNC after you did this, couse game becomes buggy if framerate goes higher than 60... (console game, although it was a fantastic port)

RafaelLopez: Why?
Because in Jade Empire the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS is really heavy:
Controls are much more precise and animations are just beatiful!

And SGSSAA wipes away all the texture flickering!
Ok, thanks, I'll look it up.
