I've just beat "Shellshock 'nam". It was creepy enough, and combat in the jungle was quite interesting.
However as the FPS game it wasn't so good :(
I wonder if we have a chance to buy Vietnam-FPS on GOG....
I actually quite liked Vietcong, which I think is now about a 10 year old game. If not older. I enjoyed creeping through the jungle. And the MP was fun, too, as you were constantly on the look-out for movement amongst the trees.

I'm not sure how it'd hold up today, though.
Maybe new consoles will mean better jungle tech and we will finally get a Vietnam game. I doubt that was the only problem though, it's a lot harder to tell a feel good patriotic war story in Vietnam.
I don't like these type of games .

Can i play as a japanese or german soldier in any WWII themed CoD ? No .
Can i play as a vietcong in any Vietnam-war themed game ? No .

( i'm talking about the single player part of these games )

I think, you can play as a solo VC in single (non-story) missions of Vietcong. It's ridiculously hard though.
More games available on GoG??

Yes please...

That's not hard at all. Oh, you meant from the US side, well that's a horse of a different color.

Nationalism shouldn't have anything to do with a game being made and/or available but regarding your comment, indeed; the vast majority (not all) of the people is the U.S. have come to the realization that there was nothing logical or noble* to the Vietnam Conflict as it pertained to U.S. involvment. This is a sensitive area so I have to be carefull and if I offend anyone I APOLOGIZE.

* I personally don't see anything noble in war period but there was an undeniable vibe of 'saving the world from tyranny' that came with WW2 that did not come from Vietnam. Before anyone calls this "macho American bullshit" I submit that with WW2 there was a mad mad who openly attempted global domination all while insturmenting a carefully orchestrated plan of genecide, and the Allies (NOT the Americans) THE ALLIES came together and stopped this mad man. Right or wrong there is nobility in that and even a sense of romanticism that didn't come with Vietnam because lets face it, Vietnam was the United States picking on someone (who was ultimatly minding their own business) out of paranoia and bullshit western imperialism. My point: nobility and romantisicm make for fun and good selling game fodder; paranoia and bullying does not (unless you are using a completely fictional and borderline slap stick backdrop like Postal or LOK).

Not exactly Viet Cong (or USA-Vietnam conflict for that matter), but 7554 depicts the end of the French occupation of Vietnam (the title stands for May 7, 1954) and has you playing as a Vietnamese soldier.

Thanks for the reply .
As I recall, the Shellshock games were third-person shooters, not first-person shooters.

The only decent Vietnam FPS I can recall is Men of Valor. Everything else sucked massively, although I haven't played 7554.

Nope, that was Vietcong.

Vietcong 2 has both a US and a VC campaign. :P
And as someone else said already, in the skirmish mode of VC1 you can play as either side as well, IIRC you even get comrades not present in the campaign (whereas playing as US gives you the comrades from the campaign).

Only the first one.

Men of Valor was God-awful. Vietcong 1 is and remains the best Vietnam-themed shooter ever made.

Oh yeah, forgot about Vietcong. That was good too.

It's not a perfect FPS by any means, but as the first foray into PC development by a small studio that's only done mobile games previously, it's decent enough. And I'm quite sure it's the first game from a Vietnamese studio released internationally, which - to me - makes it worth buying just to support them.
