Drakensang just got launched on Steam
http://store.steampowered.com/app/12640/
Anybody give a good whirl yet? How is it? Should I buy it?
No thanks. Looks so awfully generic...
I've liked it so far. I find the gameplay to be great, but some might find it to be somewhat linear for their liking, but I don't mind. The combat feels like a mix of Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale and KotOR. Character creation is good, with a lot of different stats and skills.
The biggest complaint I have with it, is that when moving the party with the mouse, the camera lags behind, so it's best to walk around with the keyboard.
Just got the only copy in my local Best Buy. I am currently trying out other games that I got along with it. I hope it's better than Gothic 3 is because that game has .......irked me a little.
I bought it the day it came out from Gamestop.
It has a wonderfully performing engine that makes the most out of GPUs as old as ATI x1600 cards.
The gameplay is solid, controls are perfect, great camera, and thick RPG elements.
However if you are not familiar with the rule set of the German RPGs of Drakensang, then this game will be a bit confusing to you, as it was to me.
I grew up playing D&D and AD&D as well as all the D20 CRPGs like Baldurs Gate and NWN.
If you don't mind how generic Drakensang seems, then by all means play it, its a good game overall.
But if you grew up with the D&D ruleset, I recommend you stick to Never Winter Nights 2 and its 2 great expansions, Mask of the Betrayer being the best expansion.
I hope this helps :)
Oh and I forgot to say, but I returned my copy of Drakensang for store credit towards Empire Total War(I cannot believe they let me do that!) I just wasn't comfy with the rule set and I figured I'd just play NWN2 again while I wait for Dragon Age.

I've already played NWN2 and it's expansions to death, and I might want a new RPG.
But yeah, figure I'll just go for Empire too right now. Budget only allows one purchase at full price.
i have played drakensang just for few hours, but it is "das schvarce auge" (hope i wrote it right) so it is "must have" for me. And looks nice, plays nice and have tons of statistics ;) looks like good old school RPG, just little more linear, but still good.
when i first read the name and saw the screenshots i thought it looked really generic... but reading a few reviews it sounds like a pretty good game. Its supposed to be reasonably good in terms of story, characters, etc.. even if a little generic.
I've never even heard of this game. I've deduced that it's an RPG, but is it a good one?
realms of arkania ? shadows over riva ? star trail ? ring the bell? one of those better RPG games in 90's

I purchased the retail copy from amazon.com last week, and I've played for several hours so far. I really like it. It's a story-driven CRPG like Stonekeep or Thunderscape, as opposed to an open-ended CRPG like the Elder Scrolls series. Actually, I'm enjoying it so much, I came to GOG to see if they had the Realms of Arkania series (Blade of Destiny, Star Traile, Shadows Over Riva) from the 1990's available, which was also based on The Dark Eye role-playing game from Germany. If you like story-driven CRPGs, you'll like The Dark Eye: Drakensang :)
Bought it off steam yesterday. Started to play it this morning after downloading it overnight. I Like what i see so far. Graphics are really good. Need to print the manual as it can be a bit confusing to begin with.
Certainly one of the better rpg's released in the lasr couple of years.
Well worth any self respecting fan of rpg money.
And I would love to see the Realms of Arkania games released here.
Has anyone bought this from Direct2Drive? I've been looking at the $5 deal with interest, but I don't know how their DRM setup works (read their FAQs, but am looking for experiences of others).
