The Vanilla Visa is one the only prepaid credit cards which have given me much if any luck in terms of international purchases on the Internet.
Has anyone used one of these to great success on GOG? If so, any special tips?
BJ

Whats the minimum prepaid amount you can get? Might be a good test to just try buying a $6 game from GOG, if it works then you get the game, if not you can use the credit on something else and not be too out of pocket
Hmm, what's the difference between this and a Green Dot?
I don't know that one.
Since PayPal made some insane changes in their terms and conditions in my country about 1½ years ago when they got an European bank permit, I started using a Wirecard.
It's a virtual prepaid mastercard.
It's linked to a bankaccount at their bank, which is easy to open and to transfer money to.
So far I haven't had any problems paying with it on either European or U.S. sites.
I've used it succesfully at gog.
If yours is a Visa, I don't see why you should have any problems with it.
As Aliasalpha suggested, simply try to buy a game.

What changes to paypal made you look for alternatives to online payment.
I'm assuming that by your country you also mean my country which is The Netherlands.

A more or less silent update in which with your approval, which you would have given without noticing, they would have had unlimited and eternal approval to withdraw money from your bank account.
I filed a complaint with them about that, they replied that they can be trusted, explained the whole process (which was actually part of my complaint) and basically ignored my complaint.
I never had a problem transfering money to my PayPal account and than using it. But that part they got rid of, which according to them was better for us as their customers.
With 1 or 2 exceptions I don't give companies or part of the government the right to automatically withdraw money from my account.

With bank account do you mean the paypal account?
In my case I don't have money on my paypal account, it is however linked to my regular bank account, so every payment I do with paypal the money is first transferred automatically from my bank account to the paypal account to the vendor.

Minimum is US$25, and my guess is (if you look at the website) most of the retailers that carry this seem to be local drugstores in the US, although you COULD buy one off their site, although I'm not sure how they ship internationally.
As far as the difference between this & Green Dot, Green Dot is a bigger PITA to use for me personally, while the Vanilla Visa is easier, AND it works (at least for me) on international purchases. I've used a Vanilla Visa to pay for my ScreenCasts Online Extra membership in the past (and the guy's based in the UK and uses eSellerate!).

It's the normal bank account which is linked to your PayPal account.
They basically want to have unlimited "incassorechten" (Dutch word to describe the practise of organizations billing you to withdraw the money from your bank account automatically if you have given them the right to do so).
Where can I get one of those and how easy is it to use on GOG.com?? Because I need a card that I can use on here...

Try Green Dot. Visa also has their own, but it costs a ridiculous amount of money to spend your own money.

Go to the site I linked to in my first post. I've found it pretty easy to use for international purchases.

Update: It works, but only if you use Paypal. Apparently you can't use it on GOG.com any other way.
Once I get a bank acct with a debit card again, maybe that's the time to use it. I will most certainly ask about international purchases over the Internet when setting it up.

I just bought the Vanilla Mastercard and it works with GOG perfectly, no Paypal required. :)
There was a $6 activation fee for the $100 one (its less for the cheaper cards)-- pretty sweet if you ask me.
