After we pay for them? I have a nexus 7, dosbox doesn't work but I didn't expect it to. Games like Torin's Passage and Space Quest 6. Is there a way to play them on the nexus 7, or am I going to have to either hope for Microsoft surface and gog.com windows 8 compatibility or hope they get added to scummvm some day?
giving this a bump back to first page.
Have you given DosBox for Android a go? I've never used it myself, but I just found it doing a search for you

Google Play link

Another one that's meant to be faster and better is Dosbox Turbo (Google Play link). This costs a small amount of money though

EDIT: added GP links

Until they are ported to ScummVM or you manage to get Dosbox working, you are out of luck.

Also even if touch screens "seems" perfect for point and click adventure games, it's not always the truth, especially for older games; going pixel hunting and big fingers on a small screen don't really go well together (even on a 10" tablet it's not always very user friendly).

It won't help, having a game compatible with Windows 8 doesn't mean it will work at all on the Surface tablet that's two different thing.

Only the Metro-ish store applications created using WinRT/Javascript/etc... will work on both desktop and tablet; all the other native only apps like most of the GoG games will only work on the desktop.
Have you played scummvm on a tablet? It works perfect. It's not anything like the few point and clicks that HAVE been put offiicially on tablets. It emulates a computer and mouse. So you scroll the touch screen as if it was a mouse pad and you see your little mouse pointer. It may not be as quick as mouse and keyboard but I quite enjoy being able to play curse of monkey island at work.

Which gets me eager to see updates so I can play some of the other "talkies". Like Torin's passage and King's Quest 7 which I just downloaded.

Torin's Passage is soon to be added to Scummvm, they are working on it. As it is a Dos game you should be able to run it in Dosbox Turbo. Same goes for King's Quest 7 or Space Quest 6 as I assume GOG uses the Dos release.

Edit: Whoops didn't read that you said Dosbox doesn't work. Now how does it not work, Is it the app that doesn't work or did a game not load? I've got Little Big Adventure 1 and 2 working on my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone using Dosbox Turbo and your Nexus 7 should perform better than that.

To clarify, there is Windows 8, which runs both existing desktop software and the new-style WinRT apps, and Windows RT, which only runs WinRT apps.

Both Windows 8 and Windows RT will be available across all form factors and device types, including tablets, so you can get a tablet or other new style of form factor without sacrificing the full Windows compatibility we know and love. :)

Only if said tablet is x86 based. Or does Windows 8 only run on x86 tablets?

Windows 8 is for x86, Windows RT is for ARM. You can't install one on the other.

Anything that ships with Windows 8 on it has all the expected compatibility with traditional desktop Windows software (as with Windows 7), even if it's a tablet or other non-traditional form factor.

This distinction will be made clear on the packaging and so forth, of course.

I'm glad they made a distinction between the ARM version and the x86 version. If they'd called them both Windows 8 there would have been all kinds of problems. Will there actually be any tablets in the near future that can run Windows 8 as opposed to Windows RT?

Various Windows 8 tablets and convertibles will be available on launch day, such as the Acer Iconia W700.

Yes but usually the "cheaper" ones will be the ARM ones, not the x86 ones.

Yes I've tried both Torin's Passage and Space Quest 6 which I've bought here on dosbox turbo I got for my nexus 7 tablet. It gives me the error about the 999.pal resource file being needed.

Ive copied 2 games (please understand I didn't pirate these games I just named a quick short temp name to test)

torins passage is in sdcard/warez/torin

when I first start dosbox turbo sdcard is automatically mounted so I just cd to warez and then cd to torin then run torin.exe. I got this game cannot be run from dos mode.

When I do King's Quest 7 there is an additional kq7 folder in the kq7 folder so I cd to that and run sierra.exe. I get the cannot find 999.pal resource file. Yes I bought these games here at gog and just copied the entire torin folder to my nexus 7. I assume I did it correctly. So what is the 999.pal problem and how is it fixed so I can play these games on my nexus 7 tablet? Would absolutely prefer to play these gems while at work.

did you mount the disc image files first?

example

imgmount D C:/warez/torin/torin.dat -t iso

or however you set it up. Look a GOG's dosbox config and copy that. You should be trying to imgmount the ".dat" , ".inst" or ".gog" files the first two are renamed .cue's the other is a renamed .bin

However, me and another GOG user have found a problem with Dosbox Turbo and games from GOG. It doesn't mount the games what have the music ripped into music files instead of being part of the disc image.
