A few years ago I was aching for a good train sim (was nostalgic for the old days of A-Train). I picked up Sid Meiers Railroads. It was awful. I then grabbed the gold edition of Railroad tycoon 3, and that restored my faith in train sims.

Shame I bought A-Train 8 after that really, should have stuck with a good result.

I've long held the opinion that RT was a pioneering title for the industry, combining economics and sandbox. RT2 brought in much better graphics, simplified some of the mechanics of working the tracks, and made it overall a better game. RT3 just built on that even more. Great series and I'd love to see it arrive here at gOg.

Speaking of RT3 building upon RT2, the one thing I best remember is how much they improved RT3's editor. Before, in RT2, if you wanted to have any sort of scripted events, you needed to have either memorized the included editor scripting language manual or printed out said manual. In RT3, however, all of the scripting commands were conveniently contained inside block-like constructs, and you could easily add, remove, modify, and change the execution order of the commands. It was truly a night-and-day change, and it actually allowed my then-young mind to quickly grasp how to build a scripted scenario - complete with win conditions! (Admittedly, my first conditions-based scenario consisted of nothing more than choosing the proper candidate in an election in order to determine whether you won or lost. :/ )

Add me to the rt2 fan list. DRM free version would be an insta-buy for me.

Count me in as well, got the gold edition of it, and i'd love to play it again, if they add it to the site. I swear to all i hold holy that i'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Found a loose copy of Railroad Tycoon 2 at a local thrift store along with Civ 3 and Call to Power in factory sealed jewel cases. Would be nice to see Railroad Tycoon here, but it is owned by 2K... So chances of those showing up here are very slim.

*raises hand* I need to reinstall [CD] and dig up my old RRT2 saves... though I should probably start over (AGAIN!) to relearn how to play (AGAIN).

Sid Meier's Railroads! was so disappointing after how RRT2/3 progressed from 1. I do have a signed copy of it, though. :(

I still have the first game's original manual and remember I spent a lot of time on it, building tracks and managing trains :).

I played the original Railroad Tycoon to death. Loved what Phil Steinmeyer and PopTop did withRailroad Tycoon 2 as well. Personally I didn't like the third installment, but both 2 and 3 need to be on GoG.

You mean like the one that 2K Games is giving away freely on its website?

Also, D-Fend Reloaded has it in one of its pre-installed game packs (pack 4 to be precise, entirely legal, although most of it is made up of demos and shareware).

Yeah, I played the first and a demo of the second fairly often. The first Railroad Tycoon has not aged all that well. However, I quite enjoyed the second and would love the opportunity to play it again. A game that I'd unreccomend is Rails Across America.

4 months ago I bought copy of Railroad Tycoon 2&3 with add-ons (Railroad Tycoon Anthology) and since then I haven't found time and desire to play them even once.

Is it difficult to blend quickly into those games?

The difficult part will be trying to stop playing them once you start :D
