I recently sustained an injury and as a result, I will be gaming with one hand.

Are there any other one handed gamers on here? Any tips or advice for me and others like me?
I can play tug of war with the cyclops and win with one hand.
i have both hands (just broken elbow once very badly) but ive got friend who has all four limbs paralyzed. not 100% but fingers not working, legs dont move at all and can move his hands to some extend. he sustained neck injury.

Anyways, he plays alot of COD games :D

Play some turn-based games that have comfy interfaces such as Sword of the Stars: The Pit :) I can access most of the keyboard commands with my left hand around the WASD area of the keyboard :)
some simulator foot pedals could probably be changed to do keyboard commands. then there are also mice with silly number of keys.

My paralyzed friend used to have one of those geekgadgets which let you do stuff by tilting head - but apparently it was so fun for fps. caused muscle cramps or soemthing.

could this sort of thing be good for anything?

Anyways, no idea what sort of games you like. I personally like alot of turnbased games, BloodBowl, Go, Civ's etc - so having just mouse / one hand would hinder any of that.

no idea if that orbweaver could be good for more fast paced action games.

I used to play NES with a guy who had a severely malformed hand that was really just a stump. He used it to button mash and it's because of him I stopped using the term "disabled" because he was faster on the press than I could ever dream of and I have 10 fully formed and functioning digits. SOB took all the fun out of playing Track & Field! :P

Is the injury permanent, or long-term?

If so, it might make sense to buy an input device that combines a lot of functionality in one hand. The Logitech G600 gaming mouse comes with 15-20 fully programmable keys (depending on how you count), including a "shift" key which lets you assign a second layer of commands to the keys. You need a right hand for it though.

The Nostromo n52 offers a lot of functionality for the left hand, but cannot replace a mouse I think.
Talking about arms and hands - future might be catching up quite soon. Never know.

Holly gog, why would one want to drink Miller in public?

Seriously that was extremely cool.

if i was suddenly kid again, id start studying robotics. 100%.
A while back I broke my right hand and I was heavily into SWTOR at the time. I had a cast on that went halfway down my fingers so what I did was got a tool called a dremmel (you will be able to hire one from somewhere for the day pretty cheap) and just shaved away a mouse shaped groove in the cast so the mouse could slot in.

I retired from ranked guild pvp for that period though but I got used to it, changed my playstyle to clicking instead of keybinding too but if you can shave away enough to get full dexterity whilst maintaining the structural integrity of the cast your good to go :)

Hope you heal up soon!

Totally not what I was thinking when I clicked this thread.

Good luck, honestly, I'm a sucky gamer with full use of both hands...

You could see this as a chance to attack your backlog of point & click adventures. Get well soon and don't unrest the injured hand too soon!
Back when I was 19 a long time ago I was trying to play Arx Fatalis one handed because I broke my right hand. I tried to suppliment by swatting the keyboard with my wiener but it did not work very well.

Practically any point & click adventure, RTS, TBS, grand strategy, racing, Hack & Slash RPG (depending on your mouse).........so yeah, I guess maybe most of them, not just platformers or FPS.
