Disciples 1 and 2
Heroes series (might and magic 1 - 5)
Age of Wonders 1 - 3
Kings Bounty - a personal fave

Obviously all the other suggestions are brilliant as well - those listed above are just well known and fun, but a bit niche
Get Anachronox. The gameplay is quintessential FF battle (ATB).
For old-school turn-based RPGs, look no further than Wizardry 6+7 and Might and Magic. Nothing old school like the actual old school.
Not familiar with what you mean by 'cheesy overworld', so these may be off the mark, but:

Arcanum: the only way to play it is turn-based. Otherwise you'll probably stab yourself in the eye.
Fallout is turn-based as well.

How do the old fallouts play? I loved NV so very much. I know the old ones are vastly different though
The old ones are like New Vegas. Fallout 2 is the better one, with more humor, a bigger world and more gameplay. Fallout is the more 'serious' one.

Obviously, it's more point and click and turn-based strategy. I find the offensive language/sex/violence is less jarring when in writing. I was tired of listening to them say "fuck" every other second in Fallout 3.

But both are worth playing? Or skip 1, go to 2?

1 is worth playing, but I never replay Fallout 1. Fallout 2 is a game I've replayed a number of times.
Eh, personally I loved Fallout 1, but I couldn't bring myself to finish the second one. The humor never really worked for me, and I felt like the first one had a much better atmosphere and overall tone.

One of the things that annoy me the most about the old Fallout games is that the combat system has a lot of potential, but that potential is completely wasted by the fact that you can only control your main character. Any party member that joins you throughout the game will just do their own thing during combat. It's almost a travesty IMO.

I still like the first one though. Definitely worth playing. But I liked Arcanum even more, despite the fact that the game is very poorly balanced and that I still couldn't directly control my allies during combat.
On the other hand, only being able to control your own character prevents you from getting bogged down in fights by managing a whole party. You're right though, any party you do have in the Fallout games just become a tedious annoyance due to bad AI.

The tone and humour is very different between the both of them. It's similar to the Fallout 3 and New Vegas, 3 had a dark tone and black humour, while New Vegas had a more cheerful tone and wacky humour.
God. Why are there so many games I want? ;-;

Anachronox
Fallout 1/2
TR 4/5
Bloodrayne 1/2
Beyond Good and Evil

I hate you gog, in the most loving way possible.
