I've been toying around with my mic and video capture stuff (FRAPS and CamStudio Opensource) and thinking about doing some video reviews of my GOG purchases.
These would consist of gameplay footage and my voice. I would open with some comments on the game's history, developer and publisher info, and any other generally interesting bits about the game overall. Then I would move onto discussion of the game itself, covering gameplay, audio/visual elements, story, and the like. I would cover the good and the bad, and how well the two balance out in a particular game.
I would round it out with my recommendation (buy it, buy it if you like the genre, avoid like the plague, etc). I will not, however, do any kind of scoring; that's what the ratings on the GOG game page are for. Finally, I would include a note on "netbook friendliness" since I play most of my GOG downloads on my Samsung NC10 netbook. For example, Sacred Gold would fail that rating miserably given the amount of hacking needed to get it running (poorly) but Giants - Citizen Kabuto would get an excellent netbook rating since it runs well "out of the box" and even properly supports 16:9 widescreen.
Would there be any interest from the GOG community in this sort of thing, and if so, any further suggestions as to what I should include in my reviews?

that all depends, what does your voice sound like?
Maybe if you posted one of your reviews, we'd all be wiser! I mean, it's nice idea and all, but criticising is best done on the thing itself
well I'd give them a watch I suppose although it'd probably be less work for you to make them text reviews, you might even win the review contest with them if you're going into that much detail.
I'd certainly be interested in some good video previews of games on the site... don't think I'd want voice over or reviews to go with it though. Still, if you'd be willing to post preview videos showing all aspects of gameplay, etc., i would be very grateful :)

Well, it'd be a good thing for GoG channel on youtube, might attract more people... Both reviews AND previews

Well, I haven't done any yet. That's why I posted this; to see if I should bother.
AoE makes a good point though. For starters I could do quickie preview videos with a short introduction by me, then clips showing off various aspects of the gameplay. If they're well received (and you don't despise my deep, mildly southern voice) I could move on to doing more detailed reviews as well.
As for text versus video reviews, I personally find video reviews of games to be more useful when deciding whether or not to buy a game. The reviews on gametrailers.com are excellent, for example. But that really varies from person to person; plenty of people would prefer text reviews. If I do some videos, then GOG'ers will have a choice. :)
yeah I thought of that not long after posting but was too lazy... er.. busy to edit

Please do, this would be awesome!
I have a whole stack of old PC Gamers, so I don't really care for video reviews anyway.
I think it would be pretty cool. As long as the quality of the recording and pitch of the voice are in good shape, I wouldn't mind watching video reviews at all.
as long as it isn't this guy. we'll probably be ok.
I'm extremely interested in video reviews of electronic gadgets. At the same time I'm extremely interested in old games gameplay videos. Might come in handy to have video reviews of old games... I think that makes sense.
I'd be interested as well. I'm a regular viewer of Zero Punctuation... Not that he really counts :p
What I meant to say is that I'm a regular viewer at Gametrailers.com and I found the usual reviewer there to be very good, informative and a voice that dosn't annoy me.
Post a review and we'll review it for you ;)

Oh in that case I say: go ahead, if you have time and motivation to do all of this, why not :-) Fingers crossed.
