Does anyone know, if you can actually properly crop svg's in Inkscape? And i do mean really CROP, not clip - which want google is offering me.

Create a rectangle that covers the area you want.
Keep the rectangle selected and go to File -> Document properties
On the page tab: expand the "Resize page to content..." and select "Resize page to drawing or selection"
Delete the rectangle you created earlier and save

However I'm assuming that this is what you were already doing?
All the data is still preserved in the svg file because of how the svg format works. If you want to get rid of the "cropped" data you would need to draw the image without the extra details (delete the nodes)

I was hoping there would be some "smart" way of doing this, instead of by hand, node by node. Also I would like to be able to crop something, that is not necessarily rectangle - "CLIP" seems to do this, except it doesnt remove the "excess" stuff.

So for example, when I had drawn certain information sign, clipped it a bit and then exported that to QGIS - it still seems to show the clipped stuff. Oh well, luckily the pic isnt big - but its just (again) frustrating when doing stuff is harder than what you thought ;)

Thanks for the input!
