Ubisoft has been on my shitlist since they went crazy with the DRM, otherwise I'd give it a shot.

Seems like a game similar to Evony with some HOMM elements and less blatant ripping off of consumers.

That being said, I can't play the game either without resorting to a proxy :|

It isn't really HMM at all. Well, as far as gameplay and there is no setting.
HMM factions, monsters, and resources. I used it to entertain myself on the go as you can check in every couple of days and survive or every few hours. It can hook you as long as you want, IMO. I could have stopped playing after 2 weeks or continued playing for another month. It is an MMO so it is competitive and runs in seasons so there is always the possibility of doing better next time and if you subscribe then you can play in multiple seasons. Nothing really for HMM fans but it can still be entertaining.

I'm currently playing and it's really fun, my alliance won the first server it was on and it's winning the second and we just started a third.
Supposedly the game is set after Dark Messiah, but there isn't really any story past kill each other so you don't get wiped out along with everyone else.
