Just signed up for GOG today and bought 2 games. Have now spent the last seven hours or so trying to get ONE (Stonekeep) to download.

Have to say, so far, GOG has the worst downloading system of any site I've ever used.

Stonekeep is only around 428 MBs. From any other site that takes about 40 minutes for me to download on my IP (I'm in Thailand). With GOG? On and off for 6 hours and it's still only downloaded 130 MBs.

Pathetic doesn't even begin to describeit.

I've tried the GOG downloader (worse than useless) and even tried with the browser. It cuts me off every 15 minutes, so that's naff too.

Any hints?

And no, it's not my IP. It's downloading as normal anywhere else.

Well it's definitely not a global thing, never experienced this personally, always downloads just fine for me. (Only trough the GOG downloader, never tried that browser option.)

Maybe GOG servers are too far from Thailand or something. Or your firewall is messing your shit up?

I' ve just tried using my browser and it uses my whole bandwith (which is 1,4 MB/s). Probably not the answer you were hoping for, but I can't really help you.

That's quite strange, I always use the browser option and I never had any problems.

I always turn my firewall off if downloads are slow (not that it usually impacts them) so I know it's not that either.

I just downloaded a similar size file from Big Fish and that took 35 minutes. GOG is now saying 13 HOURS for the rest of Stonekeep.

If it continues much longer I think I'm just going to request a PayPal refund and have done with it.

First time customer. Very poor service, IMO.

And btw, I wouldn't be so irritated if I ever had this problem anywhere else, but I don't. Internet in Thailand, overall, is pretty fast.

But if it's like this my first shot here, it doesn't bode well, does it :)

are you using there downloader or the direct link is the first question... and then my second one is have you tried it the other way or ran a tracert to the gog servers

I had the same problem too when I got this new computer, try going to the options in the GOG downloader and changing the number of connections to 1 it worked for me.

sound to me you are just trolling. why isnt the majority not having problems then?
and before you give anyone a chance to help you you just get irritated and say how bad gog is. if you get a good speed somewhere else and not here it can still be a problem on your end. like you might turn off your security software suite's firewall but if you forget to turn off your windows firewall it doesnt help. and just open your ports then you wont ever have to bother with turning it off.

think you could forget about a refund too, doesnt work like that

and in my own opinion, http works better then the downloader

Done everything you're deciding I haven't done and, no, still doesn't work. I've tried both http and downloader (downloader worse of the two).

Last option I think is to log out, clear cache etc, restart the dowloader and try the trick deshadows mentioned (substituting 1 for 6 in the dowloader - Thanks deshadowns ")

BTW, you obviously don't know how PayPal refunds work. Not that I request them often, but they refund every time if you dont' get what you pay for.

Try download the game (or just a small free game like Beneath a Steel Sky, 71 MB) on another computer and/or on another internet connection (maybe at an internet cafe?).

If it works well, then the only thing to blame is your computer and/or internet connection.

because once a while there is a post like this.
you bought a piece of software, there is no way of proving you didnt get the game.
nor that the fault lies with gog instead of your connection. try to download at another place then you can get irritated if it still doesnt work.
i had a small period too of a few days my downloads got cut off, posted here on the forum if it was just me. noone else had a problem. contacted my isp , they said my line was fine yet somehow a few hours later my problems were solved. ergo it was my connection.

Quite often when you get a very poor connection there is a problem along the way (most likely outside of GOGs control). Try to do a trace rout to the gog server and you might be able to see where the problem is located.
