So with the gamersgate sale going on, I was curious on some of the titles. I'm a fan of RPG games and loved chrono trigger. Although I read good reviews on Recettear, I really can't bring myself to play it due to its overly-childish (..difference between childish and cartoonish) theme and its apparent lack of focus in good combat(?).

So, what do you recommend? If you really, really liked Recettear, you may attempt to change me mind. :) Thanks!

Any one has some feedback on the Aveyond games?

Ugly, but they're focused on story anyway. One of the middle ones had a weak story, I haven't played that one.

I had fun with Deadly Sin: Shining Faith. Sort of a throw back to Final Fantasy 6,the guy really nailed the music, but with some updated design philosophies to make random encounters and grinding less of a problem.

Interesting thing I've noticed. All of the RPG Maker games on Gamersgate seem to use Securom even though Deadly Sin: Shining Faith only had a CD-key from the developers site. Is that a misprint on the site or a standard thing for Gamersgate? The Aveyond games look pretty cool but Securom and I don't get along.

The Deadly Sin games both look quite impressive, if there isn't much in the way of grinding then I might well get those.

As for the GG/Securom thing, they seem to have a lot of games with that system, but Securom can mean many things in practice. Often with Gamersgate it means they use it to check the cd-key (well, the equivalent code) over your internet connection. Usually just a one off.

I described it to my brother a Bioware game made by someone who had only ever written dating sims. After I recovered from being punched in the face by his scorn, I took another look at it. The writing's clunky but no worse than you get in some printed pulp, and the art is simple (remember, indie) but quite nice overall. I found it worthwhile, and it has a free demo so you can get a rough feel for it yourself.

While not really an RPG in the same sense, Shira Oka is certainly turning out to be some what of a gem.

Check winter wolves website, beside Planet Stronghold there's also an interesting princess maker-style game called Spirited Heart, and probably more RPG coming in future ;)
