I'm looking at the weekend promo for Daedalic games (Flashback!) and I'm considering these three:

The Whispered World
The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav
A New Beginning

Reviews and ratings here are worthless, as everybody always gives everything glowing, five star reviews (Jack Keane 2). So I'm looking to see what the negatives are on these games. I'm guessing they have no replay value? Do they have poor plots? Any good reason not to get them?

One of the game descriptions mentions Edna & Harvey. Any thoughts on them?
The top two reviews on this one look pretty negative here, unless I'm viewing the reviews in a different order than other folks. They highlight many concerns about the game, one of which is that it seems to employ illogical puzzles that look almost like a parody of Infocom at their worst.
I bought The Whispered World as part of a bundle some time ago. I didn't buy the bundle for it in particular, but I gave it a whirl all the same. The world is quite pretty. The game sometimes (often?) responds uniquely when you try incorrect combinations, actions, etc. I'm not very keen on the lead character, but he does have character, he's not a cookie-cutter hero. I'm not very keen on the supporting characters, either. But again, they are well fleshed-out and typically have a lot to say. I just don't like them. I find the puzzles (for lack of a better word) difficult but unsatisfying. I'm unsure how much I have completed. I'm quite stuck and I'm not motivated to continue. Experience with the game tells me that in a forest full of sticks, I may have failed to spot the particular stick I can actually pick up.

When reading the above, consider that I'm impatient with new games. I'll happily bash away at a well-made forum puzzle for days, but I'll promptly toss aside lousy adventure game logic.
I've played Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes and found it to be very enjoyable. But I can't comment about the first three since they are in my backlog. If I did not already own them, the GOG sale price would be very compelling...

A New Beginning - poor acting and plot and what worst its full of bugs (you can read my review on Mobygames for details), the The Whispered World share some of the problems of ANB (though I still didn't complete the game so I don't want to give a concrete opinion) Chains of Satinav is the best of all three in my opinion.

As a rule I recommend the later Daedalic games, especially the Deponia trilogy (the final game is the best in my opinion) and The Night of the Rabbit.
I own the first two, but haven't played Chains yet. As for The Whispered World, I though it was pretty good. Not stellar, but fun and worth the purchase. The main character's voice is pretty annoying, but you get used to it. If you like point and click adventures, it's not too bad at all. Definitely worth the buck and a half though.

BlueMooner: A New Beginning
This one suffers from a bug in the last chapter that disables manual saving. There's still the autosave function when you leave the game and then just click "continue" next time you run it, but saving your game whenever you want to is broken for some reason. Other bugs include some characters occasionally blinking or vanishing until you re-enter the screen, IIRC.

The story is quite silly, the writing is often preachy and supposedly pro-environmentalist without really having a clue about actual environmental issues and just mixing environmentalist clichés. And I heard the English voiceovers are bland.

That being sad, I still enjoyed playing it, because I liked the main characters' German voices, some storytelling aspects and jokes, the graphics and the general puzzle design (with a few exceptions).

I've played The Whispered World - didn't like it and decided not to continue with it. It's been a while but I can remember not particularly enjoying the characters and I kept getting stuck on the puzzles. I checked a walkthrough a few times and didn't like how some of the puzzles were constructed so I just moved on to other things.

This one forces 'Save the Earth' message down your throat more than Godzilla vs. Hedorah :)
Other than that, all those are good games and nice representants of fairytale, fantasy and dystopian sf. Certainly woth a try for this price.
Whispered world one was pretty good adventure. I liked it. not so many horrible puzzles. Seemed nice and those were. Still... you know good stuff and i like Discworlds.

I liked what was it.. tungusca something I liked those adventures and I pretty much did not hate it..

I haven't played that sequel but it was indeed fun.

Edit1: also it is pretty fun again play adventure games. =P *plays sanitarium* "you insane horrible people I will burn your faces*

Oh wait.. That sounds horrible..

I only played The Whispered World, and it was very nice, as far as adventures go. Some great graphics in this fairy-tale adventure. If you liked Marvin from the Hitchhiker's series, you'll definitely like the main character.
YouTube "lets's plays" can be really useful if you don't want to rely on people's reviews. I nearly missed out on "To The Moon" after I read some bad reviews - turned out that I absolutely loved the game despite its many flaws.

I've decided to try "Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav" as the price is good and I wont be too disappointed if I don't like it. Then I'm hoping to get "Memoria" when my wallet has recovered from the Christmas sales :D

Is this still true of the bugs after the recent huge update?

I haven't played Chains, out of the other 2 'A New Beginning' was by far my favorite, In reguard to A Whispered World, as well as Sadwick's voice being annoying, as others have mentioned I also thought that while the character / mechanic of the transforming pet caterpillar 'Spot' was a potentially interesting concept, the solution you used him for felt weird and a bit 'Moon logic' also the twist ending was sappy and cliched and not as clever as it thought it was, still not terrible though

A New Beginning was a really good 'Hard SiFi' tale that reminded me a lot of The Dig and if you liked that you may well like this too, personally I didn't find it too preachy especially when the twist ending makes you see the characters in a different light (hope I'm being vague enough about the endings here to not warrant a spoiler warning - think I am) solutions were usually very logical which made it maybe a bit easier than other adventures but to me it was challenging without being frustrating - recommended!

TWW has some issues with the inventory puzzles being illogical and restrictive, the puzzles towards the end being generic bullshit, a sloppy ending, and the fact that the transforming companion they ripped off from Torin's Passage is ludicrously underused. For a game that spent ages in development, there are quite a few things about it that feel rushed.
So what I'm hearing is that NB is amazingly buggy with a lot of rough edges, and has horrible voice acting in the English version. WW is decent but has issues too, and Satinav is perhaps the best of the three.
