This is just a bit of shameless self-promotion, really. I just thought that here of all places, I might find some people who would appreciate the geeky nostalgia I'm trying to evoke. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
I've done a remake of the classic Super Cars II track Bwlchyddar (Easy level 2), for Trackmania Nations/United Forever, complete with original intro (sort of) and music. I thought someone here might find it at least mildly interesting.
So, if you have TMNF (which is free, by the way) or TMUF (which is not), and have a hankering for some oldschool Super Cars II action, you can download my track here. Be sure to have the music turned up when you play it, as that's a big part of the experience.
Thanks for the info, I'll fire up Trackmania tomorrow.
*yoink*
Going to grab it now, and give it a shot when I can. Although I have never played Super Cars 2.
EDIT: That's a dastardly track. I'm definitely not used to jumps on a birds-eye-view track, there's just no way to tell when you're airborne (until you know exactly where the jumps are). Nicely done, though.
Upon first loading the .gbx file, Trackmania paused on a checkered flag screen for some time. Hitting enter took me into the game. Is that normal for custom tracks?

thank you!! I'll try it soon!
Did any of you try it yet? I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. Noone has commented on it on tm-exchange yet.

The checkered flag is a placeholder. It means a texture hasn't loaded. I wonder if I did something wrong...
You were supposed to see an intro akin to the original one from Super Cars II. Took me forever to make too. But the graphics and music is hosted on my gaming community's server. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space though, so it should load almost instantaneously. Of course, you're in Australia and the server is in Germany, so...
But yes, enter makes you skip the intro altogether. I'd ask if you heard the music, but if you've never played the original game, then you probably won't know it from the default track music.

Yeah, I get that quite a lot with custom tracks. It's because it's yet to download the assets yet. This is because the game just loads and gets on with the track, and then downloads the extra content once you've started, and downloads on-the-fly. Every time you respawn, it loads up the newly downloaded content (except for the custom music, which autoplays on download). Of course, if you have the images in the intro, the only way to replay the intro is to go back to the menu and reload the track...

Trackmania Nations pro here. Love that game with my logitech precisionpad, it's basically a PS2 controller without the sticks and rocks for this game.
Carmageddon!

No need to apologise, I stuck by netiquette and didn't double post.
I'll load it up again, and wait for the intro to play - I noticed that my router was showing activity, but it didn't click that it might have been downloading assets for the map as DelusionsBeta pointed out.
I did indeed hear the music, though. While I can't relate to Super Cars II, the overall feel of it brought on the nostalgia from games like Rock n Roll Racing and Micromachines.
It was called Rock n Roll Racing, right? The game with Black Sabbath's Paranoid track? That would be an awesome mod. And I'm rambling. Great job, though!

RocknRoll Racing was awesome back in the day. Good music, good graphics, good gameplay and a campaign you could earn money and customize your car on. Still play it occasionally on emulator.

What's that? You still play it on the original console? Awesome! ;)
Yeah, it was a superb game, though. Loved it to bits.

Wishbone:

Just loaded it up and saw the intro. Now that's awesome! Though.. Harrison Ford?
What's TM-Exchange, anyway? Is that the official Trackmania custom 'stuff' site? As you can probably tell, I haven't played much of TM, and this is the very first custom track that I've used.
Only managed a bronze. =(
EDIT: And commented. Need a replay to give the track an award. I never save replays, might have to change that.

Hehe, don't blame me. That's what that guy is called in the original game. I think it's weird too.

It's the at least semi-official site for user made tracks. There is a version of the site for each version of TM. There are other sites for custom versions of other assets, such as cars.

AFAIK, the game automatically saves the replay of your best time on each track.

But only award it if you feel it deserves it ;-)
Can someone with a 4:3 display verify that the intro looks okay at that aspect ratio? As far as I've been able to calculate, it should fill the screen exactly, no matter what the ratio. However, the Mediatracker's way of handling images is somewhat odd, so I'd like a confirmation that it works as expected. The images should fill the screen, and the text at the bottom should be visible.
Be aware that because the images for the intro will be downloaded when you start the track, but since the game doesn't wait for them to load, the first time you load the track, the intro will just consist of a series of checkered flags. You will need to quit the track and load it a second time in order to actually see the intro graphics.
Thank you for your time :-)
